A curious question....

What ever happened to the practice of running subs in Isobaric sets? I remember a few years back listening to a van that Soundstream built that ran 8 sets of isobaric 10's (16 subs). It was one of the loudest, deepest and cleanest setups I've ever heard. It was to the point that when they cranked it up it broke a weld for one of the speaker mounts hanging from the ceiling for the mids/tweets in rear. Anyway, the thought crossed my mind for those wanting 15" bass sound out of a set of 10's. A guy I went to college with ran 2 kicker 10's this way and it sounded a lot like my buick with 15's, just not quite as loud.

Thoughts, comments?

I think the main reason is cost.
Iso enclosures generally DO NOT increase loudness, they in fact, can actually sound a little better than a sealed enclosure.
A benifit was that you could run 2 subs in about HALF the amount of space it would take for one sub sealed. But, by doing this (back to the cost thing) you would need to buy 2 subs, and an amp big enough to push them, almost doubling your cost compared to just getting one sub, with an amp big enough just to push that one sub, and get just as loud.

So really, when you compare the pros to the cons, it just not worth it really.

If I am not mistaken, wasn't the original Kicker round Solo-barics based on the Iso formula. Seems like I remember reading how they got the power of two subs out of just one. Probably just hype but, I still remember something like that.
