Front speakers...

I am looking to replace my factory front speakers in 02 F150. I have an aftermarket head unit (JVC) with an Alpine-MD300 driving one 10" Fosgate in a Q-logic box under the back seat. I have narrowed it down to Infinity Reference 6812cf's and Polk Audio db 570's.. Anyone recommend anything else in that price range. I am not looking to add any more amps, just power them with the head unit. I keep the bass pretty low on the speakers and jam it with the amp adjustment to just the sub. Anyone have either of these speakers? I did do a search, just want to do further research...

Thanks, you guys rock!

Lost sheep out!

Both are okay for 5X7's

Why not just get an adaptor plate for a few bucks on ebay and get a pair of 6.5"? Lots more to choice from and depend on what you want too
I am in a process of installing a whole system in my Lightning truck.

Just ordered a new Alpine IVA-D900, Focal 165 cv 6.5" components, boston SL80, JL amps, and Forgate wiring kits.

I've got the Infinity 6812cf's in the rear doors of my 05 SC (front doors have the Infinity 6810cs's). I also have the Polk db570's in my Sport Trac. The Infinity's offer better highs and the Polks offer better low end bass. They're fairly equal in the mid ranges.

Personally, I like the Polk speakers better and they're a little cheaper. The 6X8's pop right into the factory mounts with no problems, so no need to down size to 6.5's.

An advantage besides 6.5 being a more popular and easier to find size, round speakers will distort less that oval speakers and gice you better sound quality.

Very true........you can listen them at your local car audio shop to make the change

That is what I did.......went to listen to all the 5X7's and then the 6.5"
found the 6.5" sounds better and lot more to choice from

I do have a 5x7 bostons for the rear but wanted a little more in the front

The adapter plates bolt right into the factory mount. Just take a gander at www.crutchfield.com to see what you'll need. They supply just about everything you need for installation of the speakers Free if you buy the speakers from them, or you can just buy the install kit seperately.

The 6.5's & 5.25's sound pretty good. Sometimes, you get some vibration from the mounting adapter since the speaker doesn't actually get to fit snug up against the door frame/panel as a 6X8 speaker would. There's no shortage of quality 6X8 speakers, so you do have a lot to choose from no matter the size you choose.

I called Crutchfield last night, the guy told me they only sell adapter plates for 5 1/4" speakers, not 6 1/2". I assume the 5 1/4" adapter wil not work, and i tried searching on ebay for the adapter with no luck. What should i type in to search on ebay? Thanks for all the help.. you guys are helpful. I now this can be done know, i just need to find the right parts...

Don't worry 5x7/6x8's will sound fine if you get a good set.

speaker adapter plates

hey, I just find the receipts for the purchase of my speaker adapter plates.
You can email him :

MJMautoInnovations@yahoo.com

He can make whatever size you need and the price is not bad..............I think I only paid $5.88 for a 6.5" set plus the ride of course.......

Good luck
