How to Remove Door Panels
How to Remove Door Panels
Im trying to remove my wifes door panels on her 2002 Mercury Mountaineer I believe it is the same as an Explorer. I took out the 2 screws at the bottom of the door but something else is catching. I have looked all around but cant find anything else. What else am I missing? Thanks in Advance
The 02-03 Mountaineer and Explorer door panels are nearly identical. I haven't pulled one apart myself, but Ford hides 2-4 bolts on door panels. Ford normally places two bolts behind a piece of trim on the door near the handle. On the full sized vehicles, they also tend to put a bolt behind the panel that holds the electric window switch. Just pull that panel up and out. If it has a piece of trim running verticle by the window, pull that trim off and it may expose another screw.
After removing the screws & bolts, just pull upwards on the door panel as most full sized vehicle's panels are held in place with "L" brackets. Ford also uses a push in insert to hold door panels on like on the Ranger and Sport Trac. For these, you just pull the door panel up and out. Be careful because they normally have two "L" brackets on top that often get broken off while pulling the panel.
If you want to know exactly how it's done, I often find it worth the price to get the directions on-line from these guys:http://www.carstereoremoval.com/
After you pay with Paypal, they'll send you a pass word to access the directions with pictures on their site. Their directions are far more dependable than Crutchfield.
