I'm considering getting some XXX midrange drivers to go inside my doors. Has anyone seen a setup with the RE XXX comps mounted inside the doorsof an f150? The mounting diameter on them is about 3.5" so it is a pretty deep driver.

 

I have 6.5'' Infinity Kappa Perfects in my doors. These are really deep speakers and they fit fine. There is no way the speakers you are looking at are much if any deeper, so you should have no problem.

Thats a fairly deep driver-Ive never seen them in an F150-but the best thing to do would be to take off your door panel and speaker measure how much depth you have.

Make sure you measure with the window both up and down.

 

I saw these drivers in another door, where mdf rings had been mounted over the speaker opening in the door. It was nice, but these doors had vinyl and the vinyl had just been stretched over onto the mdf rings to smooth out the look. Maybe you could do something like this (if even at all necessary) to fit these speakers, but i dont really know much about it.

Im curious, what tweets would you run with these, or does RE offer tweets with them now?

 

The XXX mids are an inch deeper than the perfects. Did you use a baffle when you mounted yours in your doors? When I measure mine with the speaker out, the guide for the glass to go down sticks about an inch into where the hole is. If I can get past this, it has about 6" of depth.

The tweeters I plan on using are the 1" Vifa textile tweeters by Seas.

 

Man, those drivers must be crazy. I had trouble finding info. on them but they seem like they will rattle the doors off. The place I ordered my adapter plates from also offered spacers, Maybe this would help out. Let me know if you want that Info.

I just though-I hafta keep the gains all the way down on the amp for my RE RE comps, otherwise the surrounds will hit the door, and the adapter plate I used is only 3/16'th of an inch. Your probably going to have a problem like that it your truck is a 99-03, not sure about other years.

 

I can agree, and the XXX is A LOT deeper.
I did 2 sets of RE's in each door on my Lightning and when stressed the surrounds DO slap the door panel. Still trying to thing of a good way to fix this without doing glasswork.

 

First time Ive ever seen 2 sets of components behind the door panels in a F150. Looks nice, I like.

You're going to want to either go 3-way or get some horns cause those xxx mids are going to be crying at how high you're going to have to cross them over.

Maybe if you put some subs in there and bump the crossovers up, they wouldnt slap the grille. But those mids are slamming down to 40 hz with no distortion!

 

Got my crossover at 75 Hz.
