2x10 or More?

hi im new here just wanna say hi to everyone i have a 05 f150 crewcab that my dad let me have and basically i wanna add a system.

i wanted at least 2 x12 or 1x15 but i relized that they wont fit inside the cab! so looks like im getting 2x10 to go under the seats.

basically i want the kicker L7 or L5 but dont really know the difference. another thing im not sure about is should i get 2 or 4 ohms and also what amp to get. at the moment i dont think i wanna get a head unit or lcd. should i get it at the same time or it would be ok if i didnt?

also i couldnt find a sub box that holds the square kickers does anyone know where they sell them. ebay doesnt have any.....
anyone have this setup or similar and does it bump? money is not super important but i dont wanna pay a grip for an amp but i also dont want a crappy amp.

if anyone can help i would really appreciate it and hi again.

Welp, first off welcome to the forums.

Im not sure who makes boxes for the 04+'s-but if you found one you could probably take a jigsaw and cut out a square hole. But I doubt you will find a box to go under the seat that has enough mounting depth to hold either of those subs.

The L5 is just a model below the L7. It handles a little less power (450 compared to 600) and has a smaller mounting depth. The L7 is a little more "hi tech" to say, than the L5.

What impedance you need depends on what amp you want to use. If you get the Dual 4 ohm versions, youll want an amp that puts out the power you want at 1 or 4 ohm. If you get the Dual 2 ohm versions, youll need an amp that puts out the power you need at either .5 or 2 ohm. There are many amps that will do all (amps stable to .5 ohm are a little scarce though).

How much do you want to spend on an amp? For a good quality amp with good power for the L7's, I would expect to pay over 800 or so bucks new. You can get some killer deals on eBay, or by buying used things.

You wont need a new HU right now-youll need a line output converter(taps into the speakers wires and converts high signal to low signal for your amp).

thx a lot for that useful info. so looks like i will go with the 4 ohms to get more power.

well are u sure the L7 would not fit under the seat on the 05 f150 crewcab. cause if they dont i cant get them. and are u aware of the best subs that will fit in there?

800 is a lil steep for the how much i was planning to spend. i was thinking around 300-400 but if it will really make a big difference in sound i might consider upping it to 600.

A lower ohm load = more power, like a 1 ohm load off a mono block amp. But you can find cheap two channel amps and bridge them to get a semi high wattage load at 4 ohms.

I guess you might be able to fit a pair under there-but with a mounting depth of over 6 inches I wouldnt get my hopes to high-but I guess dont take my work for it-Im not real familiar with the 04+ and boxes they make for them. Youll have to see how much mounting depth the boxes available provide.

800 is around what youd pay for a pretty darn good, new amp.

You can get pretty decent used ones for probably 400ish though.
