Kicker L7 10" Power Question...

Ok... i'll explain the situation...

I bought this sub and truck box off of ebay... =-p
Kicker L7 10" sub Dual Voice Coil sub with 600 RMS and 1200 max at 4 ohms

I have it set up in a parallel (I cant spell right now... its really late) and I have 150 @ 2ohms (you can do this with parallel) watts running to it... so thats 75 watts a coil... the sub is clipping... and I'm pretty sure its because the sub is so underpowered... I have the gain and EQ set REALLY low right now so it still hits, but as you can suspect... it is just BEGGING for more power...

just a few questions...

Does the problem sound like an 'underpowered' sub?

What amp would you guys recommend to power it?

and lastly... wtf is the difference between between 2ohm and 4ohm... I know it has to do with resistance, but are there any sound quality differences? because as far as I can tell there is non between my old 2ohm sub and my friend's 8ohm =-p

you cant ruin a sub by underpowering it... can you?

I mean is my sub 'dangerously' underpowered? I plan on getting another amp in less than a month but still... I dont want to have it die before then!

So i am guessing your sub is a 4 ohm DVC sub ( just to make sure ) ? That means you would want an amp capable of mainting a 1 ohm load, or an amp with a big 4 ohm load ( like a 2 channel amp, bridged ). But with that being said, only get lanzar if it is an optidrive, For 300 you could get a great amp in the 9.1 from ED, www.edesignaudio.com, on ebay you could find a US amps, cadence, or maybe a ZED audio minilth for around 200 to 250, and all of those are great amps. Kicker amps do their rated power but are a bit pricey for what they are. Older Viper amps are good too, Directed Audio and Hifonics are decent budget amps for higher power, but are slightly overrated. Avionnix and Tsunami mono amps are good, but are harder to find.

Sorry if this sounds like a long ramble, but all of these companys make pretty good amps, look for one that does about 1000 watts at 1 ohm or 4 ohm to wire your 2 l7s together in the future, and ofcourse that amps will be fine at 2 ohms.

the popping doesnt seem to becoming from the speaker... but more like 'inside' of the speaker if you understand that at all... =-p I think it's because its underpowered but i'm not completly sure... I'm gonna get an amp from my friend today so I will test this theory

FINALLY SOMETHING I CAN HELP WITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am huge into systems...

First off...don't run that sub much longer with that power.....The #1 reason a sub gets blown is trying to turn the bass way up causing distortion when it is UNDERPOWERED!

I am looking at the L5 for myself. I was going to go with the Power Acoustik Gothic 820 Watt amp. I suggest for you maybe the Gothic 1200watt. Gets up there in the wattage for good solid power if you want to bridge it, but not to powerful to overload it.

do you have pics or links to the box/sub you bought?

I'm trying to get musicmoose to do a dual 10" for the L7's...
