Smok][n!!!
Sorry to create a whole thread for this but couldn't find a better place to put it.
Smok][n,
I was poking through all the audio forums and I came across a picture of your sub/amp setup and coincidentally it's the exact same as the way I designed mine. Two 10s, front firing in a wedge shape and I even designed the amp mounted there, so I looked through your gallery and you happen to have the exact same HU I was considering as well. It's not often that you find someone who has the EXACT same setup as you were planning on getting so I have a couple questions...
Are the mids and tweets stock or did you replace those as well?
How do you feel about the overall sound of your setup?
What about the functionallity/performance of the HU? I played with one in an audio store but connected to their speakers it doesn't really mean much.
I'm a muscian and audiophile so sound quality is most important.
Thanks

You might want to try emailing him-I havent seen him on the F150 site for a LONG time.
What equipment does he have/are you considering. Some of us might have had experience with it and could comment you on it.

I tried emailing before I posted here, no response.
I was considering the Pioneer DEH-P7700MP HU and I haven't decided on the make/model of my subs or amp but I was planning on having two 10" front firing subs.
I have an '05 regular cab BTW.

The Pioneer 7700 is a nice HU and will do most everything you want. If your just the casual listener, or begginer in car audio it will definatley work for you. Its a quality unit.
The box is one of the biggest and main factors in how a sub will sound, actually its the main one.
A mid level sub in a proper box will more than likely sound better than a higher end sub in a box way out of specs. The box is one of the most over looked things-it will make or break your sub/s.
ID and SS make some nice SQ subs, but there are so many brands out there you cant even start to name them.

I'm hardly the casual listener. I always have to be listening to music in one form or another, in fact, I'm listening right now and I listen at work as well which isn't all that easy since I provide technical support over the phone. I am however a beginner in car audio...and on a moderately tight budget I might add. Are you aware of any better HUs for about the same price? I'm wanting to get satellite radio, Sirius specifically because it works better in my area and I know that Pioneer is Sat. (XM and Siruis) ready.
I'm well aware of how important the box is, everytime I go to an audio store I look at the size required to mount the sub more than I look at the wattage and everything else. My plan was to make a box the entire length of my cab and cut it in three wherever it needs to be to have the perfect space and the center part will be used for storing the amp(s). Sounds good on paper so far but haven't made any calculations yet.

Well, what I meant by 'casual' listener is, are you very concerned about the sound quality (does it have to be super good), or are you just the 'as long as it sounds good, its good for me' type.
Most either way, the HU will work, it is a pretty nice mid level HU-and do MOST things you want. Pioneer is a good HU maker, along with Alpine, Clarion Pro Audio, and Eclipse. I know most of the Clarion HU's are Sirius ready, and the Alpines are too I think, not sure about Eclipse though. Heck, Im not even sure if they are satellite radio at all.
Get some calculations to see how big of box you can get, to see what subs will work. And if you like a sub that requires less airspace you can always secure scrap blocks of MDF or something in there to take up space and get it to the proper volume, without changin the inside dimensions.

I think I'm getting that Pioneer. I've read only good things about it and it's a reasonable price. You say it does "most" things, I can't possibly imagine it not doing something I need, but I'm sure something will pop up after I purchase it, it always does. It should be in my truck early next week.
Next is to measure the back for subs....oh, and an alarm would probably be a good idea now too.
