2005 speaker upgrade question

I am sure this dog has been beaten to death... but please please please.. hehe

I have a 05 Scab with the audiophile system.. I want to upgrade the speakers in the front doors.. If I buy a component speaker system what do I do with that fancy crossover that comes with it.. is there a factory one that I replace? or do I just "plug and play" with the new speakers and can the new crossover?

also any help on what would fit in the little sissy doors I have in the back would help too.. and what do you guys think about a JL audio 8" sub in that factory box?

Thanks.

I'll try to get to this project this week to at least peek behind the door panels and see what is going on. I will let you know what the outcome is.

I too have an '05 SCAB and today I'm installing my new front door speakers. I bought some Diamond m6 separates. They are 5.25 so there is no cutting of the door panel required for the mid, but a little carving is required for me to install the tweet in the factory tweet hole. Plus I have to make an adapter plate for the mids. If you are gonna try not to do any cutting, the factory tweet location is 1.5" in diameter. You can ask to see the manuals or the speakers themselves to measure so you know they fit. You don't need to even take off the door panel. Just lift up on the plastic piece that holds the window controls and then you can access the grill and pop it out. Easy as pie.

As for the location of the crossover, the easiest option, which is what I'm doing, is to put some double-sided tape on the back and put it just below and to the left of the speaker inside the door. If you have some foam or a piece of cut up towel, you can shroud the crossover in it to eliminate vibration. MAKE SURE THE WINDOW IS ALL THE WAY DOWN, that way you don't interfere with it's operation. There is plenty of room to the left of the window. My speakers came with the largest crossovers I've ever seen, and there is plenty of room for them in there. Hope this helps. I'll post some pics.

Thanks for the info. I'd love some pics when you get the chance.. I am heading home tomorrow and I am interested in getting started on this project.

here's the pics.

There is a photo of the 6" rear speaker that I cut to fit and made an adapter plate for. Same with the front speakers. The hole for the tweet had to be enlarged a little. Made an adapter plate from 1/8" pegboard. Sounds so much better than factory HU and speakers. The boxes were made really small to fit under the seat. They are okay, but I'm gonna have to have a fiberglass enclosure custom made to make those 10's really sound right.

Hope these pics helped.

How to attach new tweeters

How are the new tweeters attached? I have not worked with the component speakers before. I have the 5.25'' Polk/MOMO speakers coming in. All the other help has been great!

I actually cut the front grill and mounted my tweeter there. Same spot as the factory tweeter just sticking out now. I used the factory hole for the mounting plate. I have Alpine Type-R Components. The crossover I put under the power window switches. Front speakers were a piece o cake. Rear speakers on Screw I could have used 2 more hands.

the new tweets fit right into the spot that was designed for them. Being an '04, yours may not have the hole. Check to see. All I did was cut the hole big enough to fit the tweets in SNUGLY so I didn't have to actually mount them with anything, but don't worry, if you buy yours new, they should come with everything that you need to make them stay put in the door. Usually just a small bracket of some sort.

Tweeter questions; once again.

I decided to go with the Infinity Kappa Perfect's. My doors have the same holes in them as the '05. So my question is what did everyone carve out the tweeter hole to make the new speaker fit?

thank you
