Screw sound Quality

Hey guys,

Installed a JL Stealthbox in my 04 screw, sounds Incredibly nice.........amped it with an AudioBahn 6004T.......in trimode, with 2 infinity kappas in the front doors. Anyway, sounds great in the drivers seat and in the front of the cab anywhere........hits hard, sounds clean, but when i sit in my back seat, which i did the other day to see how it sounds in the back, i was quite disappointed to here that it sounds a little less tight, too much resonation or something, just didnt have the quality of being up front. I know theres nothing i can do, the sub is where the sub is, and the cab is what it is. it seems as if its an issue with ones proximity to the sub, like if you duck your head down to the floormats up front for example........, your bass sometimes sounds overwhelming, i dunno if im explaining this right or not. But i just hate demoing the system when someones in the back because i know the quality from the box is not what im hearing up front. ANy Comments on this one lol .?

Not much you can do... What you have is completely normal.

Sub frequencies are extremely long in comparison to high audio frequencies which have much less change in volume in the wave path. In cars you also get standing waves and destructive interferance. Waves are bouncing all around in your truck, when they reflect they begin changing phase, and then depending on it's position when it hits the next wave begins to add or subtract to the specific amplitude(volume) at that very location.

It's the same as dropping 2 rocks in a pond at various places, when the waves meet, at places they will become bigger, and others will shrink as they cross.

It happens in my basement too, on the stairs the sub sounds very loud, in the couch it's so so, and against the back wall it's almost non-existent. At home though, I do have the option of relocating the sub to change the sound in the room, however you do not...

Frostby's 100% right. Unless you want to relocate the subs up against the tailgate, not much you can do... you can always form a line to the right and demo one person at a time in the passenger seat!
