Where To Put Stereo Equip.?
Where To Put Stereo Equip.?
OK guys,
Just got this new-to-me 99 F-150 super cab. Prevous truck was a Ford Ranger, and I built a box for the backseat of it that held my Alpine amp and two JL 10's. Is there any way to put these in my new truck and still be able to use the back seat? A friend was telling me that you can get a box out at trader's village tyo go under the seat pretty cheap. Is this true? Seems like a good, out-of-the-way place to put them, but wouldn't they be limited on airspace? What are most of you guys doing in your super cabs?
Another question... I believe my alternator is on its way out(at high rpm). Would it be wise to hook up the stereo stuff before getting a new alternator? Also, when I do get one, should I get a more powerful one to help power the speakers? When I had it cranked up, the lights would sometimes dim in my last truck.
Thanks for the help
Brian

Some people lift their back seat and stick their subs under there, but you need a sub that requires little airspace, and has very small backspacing.
Depending on what model of JL's you have, it could work.
Ive never heard of traders village so I cant say anything about that.
Heres what I did. Still need to get a cushion on the top though. 1.9 Cu. Ft. per sub before sub and port displacement is taken out, and barely any taller than the stock seats hieght.

If the alt is going, I would wait to put in the stereo stuff. That extra strain might leave you stuck on the side of the road when your not expecting. If you have the money, I would go for a HO alt. Chances are your F150 will have a bigger alt than your Ranger, but its always nice to have a little bit in reserve.
