Question Amp & Sub Ohm's Questions

I've tried reading as much as I can about ohm's, wiring, amps, etc but I'm still confused as to what I'm reading haha.. if anyone could answer a question or two, it would be much appreciated. Basically I just dont know what would be the best way to wire my setup with the amp I have, to get the most power and performance.

After much research, I've decided to get dual 10" Kicker CompVR speakers, and run it off a Kicker KX600.1 mono amp.. here are the stats of each (to help you answer my question)

2 x Kicker CompVR10
  • Impedence: 2 or 4 Ohm
  • Power Handling: 600w max / 300w RMS

1 x Kicker KX600.1 Mono Amp
  • Power: 600w @ 2 Ohm mono

Now, I have no idea about wiring these properly. Seeing as the amp is 600w RMS.. does that mean I can successfully get 300w RMS to each sub? I'm a newbie when it comes to wiring these, so you'll have to explain a bit in depth Also, is there such a thing as an amp that runs your sub, and the 4 speakers around the truck, or do you have to buy 2 seperate amps?

Would I need any other accessories to do this? I'm planning on buying a custom box, the 2 subs, the amp, and a head unit.. will I NEED anything else for this setup to run best?

Oh, and FYI I'm installing all this in a 1998 F150 Supercab, buying the box from SuperCrewSound (pending they ship to Canada?).

Does anyone have experience with boxes from that site? Reason I'm choosing this over Moose is because this has the option to get the extra 3/4" mounting depth which I need to fit the Kickers

buy 2 4 ohm subs and wire them in a parallel configuration. go to the crutchfield website and get in their car audio learning center. It will explain everything you want to know. As far as amp is concerned, for best SQ get a mono amp on the subs that can support the 2 ohm configuration and a 4 channel amp on the remaining midrange/high speakers. There are amps that allow you to run multi-channels + a mono channel but they are usually not stable in a 4 ohm load.

you will not need anything further as long as you have a decent head unit. Preferabbly one with multiple outputs but you can split a full-range output from the receiver to the two amps. as far as the enclosure is concerned, check out www.soundoffaudio.com They are awesome and very innovative when it comes to boxes. They have been a company that releases a lot of firsts in the subwoofer enclosure arena. I'm sure they can ship to canada. they are very helpful and can also make the optional depth mounting board as well.

here is a link to the crutchfield learning center in regards to the wiring.

Actually you would need the two 2ohm dvc 10 cvr's to get the 600 watts at 2ohms, the two 4 ohm dvc subs would have to be wired together at 1 or 4 ohms.

Oh.. the CVR 10's RMS rating is 300w, but the peak power is 600w.. with the KX 600w amp, would I be able to feed both subs with 600w of power?

I'm assuming its all going to work @ 2 ohms.. amp is 2 ohms, and subs are 2 ohms

yes they will work just make sure they are duel voice coils and not single. You will just have to wire it corrrectly to get it to 2 ohms.

DVC subs are not necessary. Two 4 ohm SVC subs wired in Parallel will yield a 2-ohm load on the amp. Unless the subs you want only come in a DVC configuration.

I have another question relating to amplifiers if anyone would be so kind as to their input My truck is a '98 F150 XLT supercab

My sub box under my rear set will be taking up the whole width, and my 600w mono amp will be going under the passenger seat. From what I can see, that pretty much takes up all the space I have.. reason I'm asking is I want to add a set of component speakers, or 4 6x8's later and I am going to need to buy another 4 channel amp to power them.

Any suggestions where I can put the 2nd amp whenever I get it? The rear seat does not fold down, the cushions fold forward, so I cant put it behind the rear seat

Well, Im not sure what you mean about the cushion folding foreward not down, but I almost garentee you can get an amp behind the back seat.

I will snap some pics of mine once I get ahold of a digi camera.
