What kind of 6x8s should I get?

Hey guys, XL work truck just ain't cuttin' it in the audio department I need a CD player anyway so it's OK, but I want to know what you guys suggest I replace the stock speakers with. I've been thinking about Alpines and MB Quarts because they both sound great when I've heard em, but they are both a little pricey. What do you guys recomend? Thanks for your help!

I have 6.5" MB Quart Component speakers in my Vette and they sound
awesome. The Alpine R's are supposed to be good as well. If your gona
spend the bucks you cant go wrong with either IMO.

If it is a work truck and you are going to be powering them off the HU, I would stick with something in the likes of Pioneer and Infinity. The Alpines and MB quarts would be better off if you were going to run them off an amp. They usually require more power.

You could get the RCE268 from MB Quart. They bolt right into place of the stock speaker holes with a perfect 6x8 fit. Easy install with great sound at a very decent price on Ebay.

I have Infinity Kappa's in the front and MB Quarts in the rear and even with the stock HU I noticed a huge difference. I never got to hear the truck with stock speakers but I could tell the first time I drove the truck it had great speakers. I could turn up the HU with little distortion. Now with an aftermarket HU and Infinity amp those things scream!

I've got a 2000 work truck also and i had the same problem. I just installed alpine sps-171A component speakers and they are the best with a panasonic cq-c8100u head unit. The components i got for $100 including shipping off ebay and the head unit for $140 including ship off ebay.

Have to ask, since you have both, which ones do you like the sound of better? More to the point, which one is stronger in the mid bass area?

Alpine Type-R's come in a component system with a 5x7 woofer and seperate tweeter and crossover module. The type-R actually sounded significantly better than any of the others on the display in the stereo store. Usually they all just sound the same but there was better sound both low and high as well as just quality. You can get them on ebay for about $150.

I just swapped out the factory front speakers in my 04 reg cab xlt with JBL GTO 8626 5x7's. They make the factory paper cones sound like a transistor radio, even driven off the factory HU. I've taken to fading the HU to full forward, as the stock speakers in back drag the SQ down dramatically. Next on my list is to put these 2-ways in the rear and put the JBL GTO 8606C components up front... can't wait.
