RE SX box?

Im planning on getting an 10 in RE SX or a similar type sub for my reg cab, and i want to build a ported box if possible. The way i measured my cab and the way i have my seats the box could be(if needed) 8.5(top)/10(bottom) x 12 h x 55 l, and propablly be using 3/4 mdf.

However i dont know much about designing ported boxes, as far as where to place the port and the length it needs to be. Also i dont know the all of the specs for the sub besides mounting depth and wattage.

Mounting depth = around 6.1

Does this sound like it work, sound good, any comments? Anyone know the exact pricing for RE and does anyone know the specs for this particular sub, or know of any other comprimable subs for around 200 bucks that are preffarably 2ohm dvc?

Ask this on the site link below. A lot of people there run RE and know a lot about ported boxes. I think for $10 one of them will design a box for you also. Not that someone here can't help, just a lot more RE installs and info. on the site below.

http://69.44.58.187/Forum/forumdisplay.php?f=49

RE8- $56
RE10- $66
RE12- $76
RE Comp- $165

SE10- $165
SE12- $185
SE15- $215

SX10- $260
SX12- $270
SX15- $290
SX18- $320

XXX10- $395
XXX12- $405
XXX15- $435
XXX18- $475

MT10- $445
MT12- $455
MT15- $485
MT18- $525

there is a $25 charge to upgrade the MT or XXX line to a quad or other voice coil configuration.

SX series: 10", 12", 15", and 18" All are dual 2 Ohm

Dual composite 2 piece cone
Rubatek foam surround
Cast aluminum basket
Tork-Tite terminal
8 layer flatwind aluminum voice coil
FEA optimized TG technology motor structure
Triple stack magnets
Progressive spider
Wrap around rubber gasket

Heres a link that show all specs.

Hey Dupuis,

Did you build the sub-box yourself? I just purchased a 2005 FX4 Supercab and I'm looking for an enclosure. Your's seemed to fit under the seat a little farther that some of the other I've seen.

If you built it, would you mine emailing me the specs so I could make one myself?

I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Yes, I built it. Here you go.

33''wide total. 17''wide were the subs are mounted and 16 over the hump.
Whole box is 11.75'' deep.
5.5'' in front and 4'' in back over the hump due to the angle of the seat.
6.25'' in front and 4.75'' in back were the subs are mounted.
The little leg on the side the holds up the box is 7'' deep from the front and 1.75'' tall.
Box is made of 5/8'' MDF.
Look at my box in my pictures and you will understand what all of this means.

Thanks for the help fellas, and does anyone have any information on ported boxes where the port looks like a maze on the iniside and is made out of the same size MDF as the outside of the box?

Sorry, onemore question, How would 1 RE sx 12 @ around 1000 to 1200 watts compare to 2 Shivas @ around 500 to 700 watts?

AS far as which would sound cleaner and which would be louder?
The shivas would almost have to be in a sealed box and the re sx would be ported?

Also has anybody put a single 15 behind a seat in a regular cab?

Dupuis,

Thanks for the measurments of your box. I've got a couple more questions if you don't mind.

1. What is the inside cu. of your box?

2. Do you think your box would be fine sealed and for 1-10" sub?

3. What is the mounting depth?

Thanks again...

1. Well, i guess the shiva is more SQ, and i think the sx is more spl. So it depends what you want more. And from what Ive heard, you only need to send about 300-350 watts to the shiva, anymore and it gets kinda crappy. There is twice as much cone area moving air if you get the shiva's also.

2. Dunno, its almost all in the install.

3. even if you did get a 15 back there, you probably wouldnt have enough airspace. For 1 shiva they recemend 2 cu. ft. if I remember right, and a ported sx would probably be just as much, if not more. I guess you can make the box smaller, just not to small.

But, what do i know

1. .50 after all displacements, including both subs.
2. Yes, but it would have to be a shollow 10'' sub.
3. Well, because the top of the box is at an angle, it changes from front to back. My RE8s are mounted towards the front (the wider part of the box) and they have a mounting depth of 4'' and that left about a 1/2'' to 3/4'' of clearance under them.

With the dimensions you gave I came up with ~2.5 ft^3 of airspace. That's a little small for two Shivas sealed.. but it may work OK. If it were me, I'd go with a SE12... better SQ than a SX and should be plenty loud if you go ported, and you have enough airspace to do so too.
