Post 2 OHM vs 8 OHM

A friend of mine just gave me a JBL GT 1000 sub in a box. I looked at the speaker and it says 2 or 8 OHMS. Does anyone know the wiring for each. The way it was hooled up when I got it was + from the terminal cup to the + on one side of the speaker, - to the - of the other side of the speaker and a wire between the + and - of the two sides. If anyone can fill me in, thanks.

Check out jlaudio's website. They have a pretty good explanation of dvc subs. It sounds like they had it hook up in series. That is where the amp sees an ohm load double of what the sub is rated at.
