Post DEI, JL, or Audiobahn?

I'm looking for 2 10" subs for my truck. I have narrowed down to three, DEI, JL, or Audiobahn. Which of these would be the best? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

Thumbs up

A good friend of mine is in sales with DEI (not my part of the country). Quote: "DEI is.....ummm....not a big name in subs". He was being kind.
JL does subs. JL made their bones in subs. Certainly, there are others. But considering your choices, I'd plunk my money on the JL. They're stiff. They like power. They are very clean.

JL's are good. Audiobahn is supposed to be really good, but I have never heard them.

The others I've never even heard of.

Cool

Try www.thezeb.com. They sell online, and list manufacturers' websites.

Tweeter,

Try the JL website and do a dealer search.
I checked and there were about 10 retailers in my area with a 15 mile radius.
I just picked up some 8" JL microsubs ($179.00 ea) for my 2001 Lightning-Will be installed this weekend.

all three brands are good brands. it really depends on what line of the brand you want. but personally, i'd go with the JLs. Great SQ with a mean SPL side. and JLs are everywhere online.

Wink

I have 2 DEI 12" Competition subwoofers. They sound awesome, but they are very power hungry. Like the others said, DEI is not really known for thier subs, they are known for their alarms. But don't let them fool you.. their subs rule.

However, nobody can really tell you what you like, you gotta figure that out for yourself. My advice is, if possible, listen to the each of the subs and decide from there.

Hope this helps and good luck!

After looking at the JL 10w3, I have a couple of questions. One, will the dual coil sub fit behind the seat without issues? Two, being new to this, what is dual coil exactly?

More then likely the DVC will fit behind the seat, usually they are the same size.

A DVC speaker is a speaker that has 2 voice coils on it. A majority of speakers only have 1 voice coil, which accepts 1 + wire and 1 - wire. A DVC can accept 2 +'s and 2 -'s. The main purpose of DVC speakers are for flexablity in wiring.

If you want to understand more go to www.jlaudio.com, they have a great DVC FAQ.

With DVC, can you only hook up 1+ and 1- and it still sound good? I will be pushing two subs with an Orion Extreme 500 amp, 250 per 2. Would that push 2 10w3?

OK, after reffering to JL website, with a 4 ohm amp, what is the best way to go. Should I wire Parallel two 8 ohm subs, or wire Series two 2 ohm subs? Or is my thinking incorrect?
Thank you everyone for you input!

Another online distributer is www.woofersetc.com

Tweeter,

There are advantages to each of the two wirings. I prefer parallel. The reason being that while series wiring doesn't put as heavy of a load on your amp, it also draws less power from it. When you wire in parallel it puts a heavier load on the amp, draws a whole lot more power from the amp, and the amp runs hotter. The big advantage is that it pulls more power from the amp. However, you must make sure that the amp can handle the load presented to it by the speakers. Therefore, if you have 2 8 ohm speakers that you wire in parallel, then it will present a 4 ohm load on the amp. I think every amp out there these days will handle a 2 ohm load. However, there are many amps that will not go below 2 ohms. There are several that will handle a 1 ohm load and even a few that will handle a .5 ohm load.

Hope this helps!
