Lightbulb 10" Sub

I *never* have a passenger in the middle of the front seat, so here is what I am doing.
I am having one of the local stereo shops build a center console (similar to the Clarion, but bigger) that will conform to the dash/floor and run from just under the accessory power outlet to the edge of the front seat. It will hold one 10" sub firing toward the passenger side. We are going to put cupholders in it and cover it with matching carpet.
Now don't get me wrong, I am NOT out for a booming system...I just want some better sound. I am also putting in four 5x7" Rockford 2 ways and an Alpine 5 channel amp to drive it all with. Should sound a little better IMHO.

Why not make it fire down? It would save the apearance from the pass. side..might even sound better! Just another opinion ,,,,,98

The guy at the shop wanted the sub to resonate off the passenger door...and it sounds darn good that way.
Appearance is not an issue. He is fabricating a matching carpeted grill so you won't be able to see the sub at all.

Mange,

That sounds like what I have been contemplating in mine. Let me know how it turns out!

It's built! The Rockford 5x7's are in the doors and the 10" Punch is in the box. They had to order the carpet tho, and then I need to surface-mount a cupholder on the box .

The Alpine 5-channel amp runs all of the speakers, and it sounds SWEET.

Mange: You may want to consider component separates for the front to add brightness to your new system. I put DiamondAudio M551 seps in front (5.25 round fit on plates in the stock openings; Dynamat first!) I replaced my rears with 6.5 round Kicker Impulse coax, also on plates (I have a SuperCrew). I am extremely pleased with the clarity and brightness of this set up, particularly the Diamond seps. With the JLAudio subwoof stealthbox, and my system cranked, I get excellent bottom end without any "slamming" AND hear the sizzle of those cymbals! (I wasn't out for a booming system either, but I wanted to be able to thump a little bit). My woof is amped by a RF 250a, the Diamonds by a Kicker 55watt and my head units drives the rear fill. Have fun building yours!

Question

Mange -

Do you have any way to post a pic of the box? Would love to see if it is anything like I have thought of.

Thanks,
Jeff

As soon as they carpet it, and add a trim panel, I'll post a pic (hopefully tomorrow).

It thumps.

I am going to call the stereo store tomorrow. I am an ER doc, so I work loooong strings of days in a row. I have worked 14-15 hours a day all week, and tomorrow is my day off. Hopefully they can get it in tomorrow or Saturday.

I thought of putting a sub there too. I think Calrion makes a box with an 8" driver that fits there. But because my wife likes to throw her purse on the floor under the radio, I bought a box for under the X-Cab seat from www.subbox.net. Plus it holds two 10" drivers instead of one 8".

Has anyone else bought one of the dual 10" down-fire boxes from Subbox.net? If so, what drivers are you using?

Andy
