Talking JL Stealthbox

I just had one of these installed in my F-150 and it is amazing the bass you get from 2 8's. I am powering the box with a Phoenix Gold ZX400ti. I also had 2 sets of MB Quart 6.5 seperates installed as well. I am driving them with 2 additon ZX400ti amps. It sounds really good and everything is hidden.

Question

ROB,

What year is your truck? I am in the process of getting the same box and have been told it will only fit up to a '99 model year. I have a 2001 due in 3 weeks and want this box. I really can't see what the big difference could be between a '99 and a '01 under the rear seat that the box wouldn't fit.

I have been looking for dimensions to the JL stealthbox for my 97 ext cab. Would you happen to know the dimensions of yours'? I am looking to build my own.

Cool

I have the JL Stealthbox in my 99 f150 and while it is the best thing available to fit under the stock rear seat, I am not very pleased with it. Even with the crossovers on my Kenwood eXcelon receiver set to 50HZ, and the EQ with the bass cut all the way down at 150HZ, there is still too much "high bass" and it sounds crappy. I used to have 3 JL 10w6 subs in my cobra and it was incredible. With the stealthbox I can't even turn it up without major distortion from the subs trying to perform in a way they can't. Ihave an ultra clean signal going to them so that is not the problem. I use Precision Power amps and have 600 watts going to the stealthbox. I have heard about a rear seat lift kit and this has excited me because now maybe I can put a real sub box in the truck without giving up my passenger space.

As for dimensions of the stealthbox, it is hand laid fiberglass custom fit to the contours of the floor and the bottom of the seat. There is not much chance that you could make one of these on your own. JL also has a cheaper line of boxes called the vantage line. They are plastic, non carpeted, and do not come with speakers. You could duplicate their stealthbox with a vantage box and save yourself a few hundred bucks, but it won't have carpet. The shop can carpet it for about $30 though. Has anyone used this rear seat lift kit? What kind of subs did you get to fit in there?

I have a prefab box under the back seat that holds 1 10. No MODs. This thing pounds. The box is only about 100-150 depending where you go, and then you have to get a sub that will fit in it. I wont lie it's not very deep(around 5 inches) but I have a pheonixgold sub in there and I am surprised by how much bass I'm gettting coming from 15's. Let me put it like this, BASS CD's sound good in it. 25hrtz clear. I just cant see spending 500+ on a pair of 8's.

Hey BossHog,I dont know for sure if the box will fit or not but i do know that there is a diffrence in the back seat on a 99 and 2001.The back seat of the 99 folds out flat to make a flat metal surface and the 2000-01 fold up against the back of the cab like a chevy. That might make less room under the seat.Good luck

Hey just wondering how you think the 8's hit in your truck. Right now I have three JL 10 w3's in my truck and I keep on blowing the damn things up. I was debating on wether to put in four 8 inch w6's or just get three new 10's. Is your truck regular cab, cause mine is and thats really the only reason I would think the 8's would sound good in a regular cab. What type of JL's did you do. Also when the bass hits does it hit deep or not really. Hey man thanks

the eights sound good in an ex cab also.A buddy of mine has 3 rockford fosgate dvc's under his rear seat in a 99.He is using a crossfire amp to push them. They pound and talk about tight and controlled bass. Wow.Makes my 12 sound so sloppy and loose.
He had to get that rear sit lift kit to fit the boxes.

Cope5034, If your looking for those sub boxes all you have to do is go to the classified section and look up sub box in the advanced find. Look at ad# 7264(I think) That Guy has some for sale. Good price too. The one that I got came from www.radio-active.com and they get those prefabs from "The Wood Shop" out of Texas. Check them out, they Should be able to deliver.
