I have a set-up almost exactly like this. I just installed a Thunderform box with an Xtant 10" under the rear seat in my Supercrew. I retained the factory HU and everything sounds and functions perfectly. However, to make it work you'll need an adaptor piece. My friend installed my stereo so I'm not sure exactly what the piece is called, but it installs to the back of your HU. Any stereo shop should know what you're talking about if you asked for one. Overall, I'm very happy with the system, and by using the factory HU, I saved some money I can use to buy an in-dash monitor .

The "converter piece" is called a line-out converter.
Wal-mart and radio shack both carry passive versions.

A powered version (commonly part of an equalizer) will give you much better sound.
