No problem, congrats. Did you go ported? If so, how much box were you able to get them in? Did the guys at CC know anything about RE before you showed up? Get more pictures of your box and subs up when you get a chance.

 

No cc had no clue they thought they were some generic brand.They really were caught off guard by them it was sweet.No I went sealed that was also on of the reasons it surprised me how well they hit>y box is a q-logic custom 208 It has 1 cubic foot of space.The guys at re actually said the subs were better suited for 0.70 cubic feet in a sealed box but would still work fine in mine.More pics soon thanks again.

 

Question:

Did the guys at RE advise one RE8 in a .7 cu ft box, sealed?

I want to make sure that I'm reading that right.

I would think that he means two each re8's in .7 cubes.

 

It's .217 sealed each and .50 ported each.

 

Hey what are you guys paying for a pair of RE dual voice coil and who are you ordering them from. I just got a quote from Visionary Audio and they quoted me $110 for a pair that were Single 2ohm.

I am assuming most people are going with Dual Voice Coil 4ohm

 

I paid about the same...
Since there isn't an RE dealer anywhere near me I got mine directly from RE. The 4ohm DVC subs (with chrome back plate) are the '04 models and the 2ohm SVC models are the '03s. I'd request the prettier '04s if I were you.

 

I got mine from the same place for $95 shipped for 2 of them. Mine are single 2 ohm. Dual 4 ohm coil just gives you more wiring options and the single 2 ohm ones do not have the chrome back plates.

Could someone explain the difference between the 2ohm and 4ohm subs?

I notice that most amps cliam to put out alot more power at 2ohms, but I never see 2ohm subs.

Could these RE 2ohms be the answer to pushing more wattage?

There are different ratings for the subs so the user can have flexibility for different configurations for his subwoofer system depending on his amp/amp's capabilities. It's all about Ohm's Law(current and voltage and resistance). An amp will work at an optimum performance level into a certain resistance. Connecting subs a certain way can give you that correct resistance. There is no magic way to get an amp to produce more power than it is capable of. You CAN get more from an amp by lowering the resistance from 4 ohms to 2 ohms, or even 1 ohm, IF THE AMP IS CAPABLE. But if it is not, the amp will crash and burn. You hear people talk about bridging and paralleling and doubling power , blah! blah! blah! But if you don't know what you are doing, AND especially if you have some low to mid quality amp, you will be asking for trouble. There are some high end amps to which all of this doesn't apply. For example, JLAudio makes amps that will produce the same amount of power into any load from 1.5 to 4 ohms. But this does apply to most average amps that are available.

Thanks for the response.

I'm unsure of the different ways to hook up the subs to get different resistance. I'm planning on buying a monoblock amp.

I wouldn't need to worry about bridging it would I?
