Sealed, Ported, Bandpass
Bandpass boxes sound great...when dialed in. Everything has to be dead on or you become the king of distortion, while replacing subs left and right. Go sealed or ported, unless you really want the pain-in-the-*** task of dialing in a bandpass box. Either way, good luck dude.
Ya'll have just about talked me out of the bandpass deal. I was just thinking order a $40 box and boom, but that's not the impression I'm getting. So do ya'll think ported or sealed would be better?
That depends on how much room you have to deal with. Sealed boxes are smaller in air volume, ported are larger. If you look at you sub air volume specs. you'll see cubic ft. for both. Just match the subs volume to the box. It takes some shopping around. I have 2 fosgate stage 2 subs that require .65 cu ft of air space each, and on www.subbox.net i found a behind the rear seat (4 my SCREW) sub box for 2 10's with .65 cu ft of space for each woofer. It's important to get the subs matched to the box as close to possible or they won't sound right. That's a nice plus for a ported box though, you can fudge more w/ a potred one than with a sealed one. You can make a custom box too, just measure and see what kind of volume you have to work with and divide by 2 and then match up 1 or 2 subs. If you want to buy a pre-made one, under the seat or behind it, you can try www.subbox.net or www.supercrewsound.com , www.crutchfield.com for some ideas. You'll be mutch happier w/ a sealed or ported box.
