8" Subs

Well i need some advice.

This is my current set up, i have a kenwood 4 channel powering all 4 pioneers.
That is a cheapo 5 channel powering the one dual voice coil 8" sub.
I have a Sony head unit.
I am completely happy with the Kenwood and all four corners, but i was going to use both 8" subs and now only want one 8" and a mono amp to power it.
Am thinking a MOMO carbon series and am undecided on the sub.
I have another one like in the pic, They are brand new in the box but are verry old, 8" JBL dual voice coil 200W, and i can tell one of these older models is not going to be enough.

Any suggestions welcome.
SEE YA!!!!!!!

Here I am. Can't go wrong with the RE8s, for $50 each, they are the best value. Not to mention one of the best 8''s out there.

i am going to remove the center console and make a custom fibreglass enclosure for the four re8's. i am going to go ported. i have a set of orion 8mb for the kick panels and a set of cdt's 6.5 cf components in the doors. i made a custom fibreglass enclosure for an xtr pro 10 in my f150 supercrew and it just was not enough, so with the new truck i want to make sure it rocks. i had actually meant to contact you concerning your two eights. you had said that it sounded amazing- i just was not sure if two eights could really make me happy. i just do not understand that with how much bigger our trucks have gotten there is just no room for systems. you really have to be creative now. it seems that we are starting to compromise a bunch and i was not sure how much you really thought you compromised or if you were really that happy. re had a deal on six re8's so that is what i went for. of course i am just going to use the 4 of them though! sorry to stray from the topic... but since i got your ear dupuis i just wanted anything else you could elaborate that has not already been discussed. thanx man!

I did not compromise any because all I was looking for was a little more bass than stock. Well I got a **** of alot more than stock with the 2 re8s. I used to run 2 12''s back in the 80s so I am very impressed with the out put of these 2 re8s. Not having the room for 1 whole cube in the area I put them and still having room for the amp, I have the 2 in about .73 cubs which comes out to .50 after all displacements. Since .50 cubs is whats called for for 1 RE8 I was concerned as to what it would sound like. Not to mention the large port I had to install because of the small box. But I have to say, it's plenty for me. I'm sure you will be happy with 4 ported. I'm just not sure how much you are looking for. I first made a sealed box and installed them in that one. It's sounded good, so I made my ported one and it just about double the out put. I was blown away when I installed the ported box.
If you have to go a little smaller than 2 cubes for 4 of them don't worry about it, they will still be fine. Also if you are tight on space, go with thin wall PVC for you port. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowes. How many watts will you have runing to them?

One more thing, they can get very loud. I know of someone who did 137db with 2 re8s in a ABC box and another guy who did 137 db with 1 re8 sealed in .355 cubs with 200 watts to it. Of course these guys really know what they are doing with installs. If you can get yours right, they will be loud ported.

Than that's what these are known for, nice tight bass. Be carefull with that 300 watts each though, I have 200 going to each of mine and I have my gains turned to about 3/4.

MTX thunderform

I have a MTX thunderform with two stock 8's and a rockford 401m 900watts. I was wondering what the best subs were for this box...

Just find some that match you boxes volume and depth. Be careful with that amp. Very few 8'' can handle 450 watts.

Hey WHITE, the MOMO CARBON SERIES AMPS are nice amps. You'll be happy with those. Just make sure you get a big enough one four all your subs.
