Infinity Kappa Speakers...

I know that some of you have installed the Kappa's into your new '04's. How do they sound? I know that they are meant to be powered by an amp, but do they sound good without one? And, does anyone know of a good site to buy them from? Thanks in advance!

I love mine. I have always been a Kappa fan since the 80s. I installed mine without an amp and it was clearer and alot more detailed, but the stock bass was louder because the Kappas were way under powered. Once I put an amp, they woke up and came alive. I got mine new on E-bay.

Hey Dupuis, I noticed you have 6.5" components up front. How did you fit a 6.5" speaker into a 6" opening? Did you cut out some of the surrounding material, or do the SCrews come with a larger opening?

All I did was sand a little if the metal speaker frame off on the top and bottom of the 6.5. Just make sure that you line up the speaker to the mounting holes and than mark were to remove the metal. I used a table edge sander, but a hand belt sander will do. It had no effect on the speakers sound or preformance.

I have not installed them yet but I got 5.25 Kappa componets for front and 5X7's for the rear. I found my best deal on Woofersetc.com. A few other sights were cheaper but the freight was more.

I can't wait to hear them I also got a Audiobahn amp to power them.

I just upgraded to an '04 from my '01 and I'm just now getting familiar with the characteristics of the audio system in the truck. Do the front doors also have a tweeter up at the top? It looks like it from the picture, or is that something else.

Well, I got the 5.25's for the front, and 5x7 for the rear... all Infinity Kappa's. I ALSO bought an Audiobahn amp to power them. I got my 5x7's today, and had them installed in less then 30 minutes ( Prior stereo installer when I was younger ). There is a WORLD OF DIFFRENCE. I should be getting my front's and amp soon. You will LOVE the sound on these Kappa's... TRUST ME!!

That is a tweeter at the top of the door. The hole is there from the factory.

Grey,

Which Audiobahn amp are you using for the Infinity speakers? I don't know if I should look into Audiobahn or go with Alpine.

I am using an audiobauhn 6004T (4ch). I got a really good price on woofersetc.com. I don't think they are an authorized dealer that's why its so cheep but I could not pass up on the price.

Sound great plenty of power. I could get alot more power if I would bridge the amp.

I am now looking into building a box and running a 10" or 2 8" subs.

Thanks Grey,

I was looking at that amp (Audiobahn A6004T) to run four Kappas....does it put out the full 75x4 or does it sound like less to you? I am also looking at an Alpine and an MTX--both rated around 70x4.

I have heard that the A6004T is overrated. But I have also heard that they are quality amps. Just want to make sure I power those Infinity Kappas the best I can for $300.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you all. I have the Audiobahn A6004T. I have not installed it yet, but I do have a friend that has one, and it is a good amp... that is the only reason I bought one. Hey, forget the $300 price tag, check ebay. You can get one for HALF that on there, BRAND NEW!! Take a look. Let me know if you have any questions.

This amp has more than enough power for me. I think it really pushes those Kappa's. I think I'm about 1/2 deaf now.

Yeah don't pay $300. I bought mine from woofersect.com for around $180.

I am really happy with my system but I still do not have enough base so I guess I am going to have to build a box and buy either a 10" or two 8" subs. I was hoping the 5x7's would have enough but I guess that was wishfull thinking.

Let me know what you end up going with.

To reply to the overrated comment on Audiobahn. It is a little missleading because you really don't get the power out of the amp unless you bridge it. 75 per channel was plenty for my components and 5x7's.

Thanks again Grey....I was really stuck on that amp because of the adjustable subsonic filter.........I am having a LOT of trouble deciding which route to go. I don't know if I want the Audiobahn (which has just been put back at the front of my wish list for now) or MTX or Alpine.

The 75x4 is a big thing for me. I may follow suit and just wire 1+2 and 3+4 in parallel. Who the hell knows...and to agree with Steve, I am also a big fan of overkill with wiring. It saves so much damn trouble in the long run.
