Loud Idea
Hey, I have an 2003 ext. cab f150 and im currently running 2 10" JL w3v2's with a 500/1 JL amp. These sound great, but i want more. I want people to know im coming even when im far away.
So i started thinking and came up with these ideas:
2 or 1 JL 13" W7 with a 1000/1 JL amp in a custom box in the bed.
2 or 1 EDA 15 with 1000/1 JL amp in a custom box in the bed.
What do you guys think I will like better? Will i have any power source issues (amp, battery, etc), and would you reccomend something else. Oh yeah I have a fiberglass tonneau, how will this affect the sound?
Thanks, Jon

Nice lookin truck, but my recommendation is to buy some 6x9"s. Why? because immature thoughts like "I wanna be heard a mile away!" are what give this hobby a bad name and bring Mr Law down on those of us who want to bump responsibly.

Well im sorry for getting you guys upset. It was just a metaphor to compare how loud i want it to be. I can care less if people want to hear my music and there is no "noise disturbance" laws in my town so thats not a problem for you guys.
So if someone could help me out instead of giving me a hard time about this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jon

well lets see
1 12" w7 takes about 1000 watts, so im gonna guess the 13 will rms around 1200,
2 13in @ 1200 = 2400 watts
ur gonna need some stiff caps..like a 3 farad cap for each sub.. i think. ur also gonna have to double up on batterys, or ur gonna drain your primary extremely fast.
might as well upgrade your alternator since you're gonna spend over 1400 on subs alone
its gonna be a nice setup,, to overpower your mids and highs, and essentially disturb the peace. u'll feel the shake in your cab, but the sound quality will not be there. to get sound, you'll probably amp your mids and highs. good luck its gonna cost you a large sum of money,, hopefully you think its worth it to have a setup like that
a setup like that is gonna cost you money, with the tonneau cover ur gonna buy (or a lock tool box) and the custom wire running you're gonna have to do.

FALCON9901, I know how you feel, you want it loud and low and people are just like why. I'll tell ya'll why, it makes ya feel GOOD. All the bass, rollin down the street with a grin from ear to ear. Its sweet.
,and no offence, you guys do offer alot of help, but you need to HELP more instead of knocking people just cause its not what you like.
Anyway, if you are gonna go wtih a box in the bed, you gotta make it worth it, not just one 13 in there. Go for at least 2 subs back there. Unless space is a problem. You could go with a 15 in the back(or the 13, even though thats jsut the opposite of what i said) and keep the 10's in the cab. If you have the money and you wanna go all out, do a cut through.
Im not really sure how the tonnuo will make it sound but I would think it would make it pretty boomy. Posssible pretty sloppy.
Your charging system will probably need a boost. You can the the 'magic 3' or whatever they call it, and posibly a bigger alternator.
You shouldnt need a 2nd battery, that doesnt really do much unless you wanna listen to your stereo with the engine off.
If you do that (listen w/ the ingine off)I would definatley get a 2nd battery and a battery isolator. Thats what i would do anyway, then you dont have to worry about your battery draining from your stereo(with the engine off of course).
If you dont listen to it with the engine off for long periods, then a 2nd battery wont do much, unless your system draws so much current that the altertator alone cant handle it and it starts to take some out of the battery, but if it does that it means you need a begger alternator. A 2nd battery will help alittle in that case if you dont want to spend more $ on another alternator.
Well, Ill shut up now, Im sure everyone is tired of hearing what i think I know.
Good luck

Hi Iam new here but have been installing and competing in the car audio scene since I was 16. I am 22 now. Any ways if oyu want to go LOUD and you want to put a sub in the bed like I saw in post on here prior to mine DO NOT just put 1 sub in the bed. If you are going to go through the work of cutting through the backwall and all the sheetmetal work andbox building you would be better of running 3 or more. If oyu want to run 2 13W7s I would reccomend you build a custom rear seat/subbox/amprack. If you down fire the subs they will sound better and then you mount the amprack on the fromn of the box visible to the public by looking in. Then you use a piece of 3" thick dense foam and staple i to the top of the box then use vinyl to cover it or the cloth from your old rear seat.
As far as cutting into the bed goes, you will have to cut out the rear wal, then build a MDF box for the sub(s) and then fabracate and weld a cover to cover the MDF box then weld it to the bed of your truck (not a good idea if you don't plan on keeping it for a long period of time) as far as the tonneau cover goes it will not matter as long as the seal are in good shape and it is properly locked down. But I owuld HIGHLY reccomend not going thorugh all that for 1 or 2 subs.
Just my input/opinion and if oyu need any help or anyone else does I am on AIM at blkcg3
