Question What type?

Ok guys, here's another.... The more I research, the more questions I get....dang! I'm looking at Pioneers because I have a Pioneer 50x4 head unit (do I need an additional amp?). What kind of speakers should I get? 2way, 3way, 4way? They are all different and the 2ways are more efficient and have more frequency range than the others. Hmmmm. I listen mostly to country and rock and would enjoy some good base as well. Thanks!

To run some low end 5x7 coaxs, you could get by with the deck power but amps never hurt! With that being said, i'd stick with looking at 2 ways but you really should try to go listen the the speaks your interested in to give you a better idea of what your looking at.

If i was going to run just door speakers, I would seriously look into 6"x9" and a small amp with at least 50 RMS a channel.

Now if you want to ge off your wallet and get some nice sound, look into a nice set of comps. That is where there is a woofer and a tweeter with a x-over.

I would never try to match the decks brand to the speaker brand thinking that it will sound better. Try to hear some Alpine type R and type S in both 5x7 and 6x9 with a simillar deck to yours. Then click on an amp and see the difference for yourself.

Thanks! I'm planning on replacing all 4 speakers. I'll be getting done with finals soon, then I can go shopping. Would a set of 6x9's require any trimming seeing that the factory one's are 6x8's? Also, are "comps" short for competition or some other name? Much appreciated!

Yes a 6x9 would require some trimming of the metal in order to fit where a 5x7 would fit without trimming. Comp is short for components. Basically meaning that the tweet and mid are two seperate speakers.

Comps

Component Speakers.
Has a separate woofer, tweeter and crossover, the 6.5" sets will fit with a mounting adapter.
A decent set can be bought for $85
Of course you can spend more and get better stuff, but getting away from coax speakers and into components will give you the biggest bang for your $$$
IMHO simply replacing the stock speakers with coax isn't worth it.

Save some cash and skip the rear speakers. Anything you put back there is going to sound like garbage in a regular cab. Depending on your budget....I would recommend getting a small 2 channel amp (or 4 chan if you plan on subs) and a set of 6.5" components.
