Question Rear speaker size 2003 F-150 Ext Cab?

I want to replace my rear speakers in my 2003 F150 Scab, but crutchfield web site sayd the SPS speakers fit, but the Type R speakers do not fit. They are both 5x7, are the front the rear the same? Is crutchfield wrong?

size wise they are the same as far as dimensions but the problem is in the mounting depth. You can pretty much trust crutchfield.

After replacing my factory rears with Polk db650's - I concur with cgorris. The difference in depth is somewhere between one half to a full inch.

Ok, great answers thanks, it looks like this...

SPR-574A speaker fits 5"x7"

Top-mount Depth (Inches) 2 3/4
Bottom-mount Depth (Inches) 2 15/16

Alpine SPS-570A fits 5"x7"/6"x8

Top-mount Depth (Inches) 2 7/16
Bottom-mount Depth (Inches) 2 13/16

So, the extra 1/2 inch is the deal killer, is there any room back there at all? Maybe I can shove them in and have speaker grill on the outside of the door panel? No that wont work..... damm...

At present, the tweeters on the Polk db650's are pushed up against the factory plastic "grill" in my rear doors. Of course, I also have 3/16" of adapter plate material that 5x7's would not require. These speakers have 3/8" tweeter protrusion - thus a total of 9/16" mounted on top of factory speaker cutout. Because these are temporary speakers, I'm not very concerned with the door panel being displaced and it is not causing vibration issues - yet.

If you're going with 5 x 7 replacements, I don't see why you couldn't trim out the door panel "grills" and cover your new speakers with aftermarket grills.

Crutchfield has had some mistakes int he past, but they have been fixed by now. If I rember correctly there is enough room to do a spacer so you should be able to fit most speakers back there.
