Rear Door Panel Replacement

I've got a 2001 Ext Cab with speakers in the rear doors. I was wondering if anybody has found door panels WITHOUT the factory speaker "grills" molded into the plastic. Is this part available? Or am I gonna have to do some custom fiberglass work?

Custom work. At least I have never heard of anything available.

Thanks - After an exhaustive search last night, I'm gonna have to agree that custom is my only solution here. Anybody plant any speakers at a different location than the stock mounts in the rear? I'm looking for ideas. Pics would be appreciated if you have any.

...pssssst, I'm working on a single 10" box design for under the rear passenger seat as we speak. I will forward in AutoCAD or ".pdf" format when complete - if anyone is interested.

There was a thread lurking around here somewhere that had dimensions available for a rear mounted sub box for under the rear seat. Do a search and you should come up with multiple threads.

Hi. Are you planning on a DVD-Audio or DVD video system? I am curious as to why you are focused on the rear speakers.

Thank you,

No, not looking to put in a DVD system. I'm not really focused on the rear speakers - but I do believe in installing them. I am one of "those guys" who believes that a mobile audio system should sound like a mobile audio system. In other words, staging is moot - I prefer to be surrounded in sound.

I ask about the rear door panels - because the factory ones restrict coaxial tweeter height. I don't have any plans to put components back there, so I was looking for a way to replace the factory "grill slots" with tightly finished aftermarket grills.

Hi. If all around sound is what you like, then go for it. It's all about what YOU like and what sounds best to YOU.

My dad has a 2001 w/SuperCab, but I can't remember where the speakers are on the door.

I was curious as to whether you were going for a surrounding sound style or sound more for the rear passengers.

Thanks,
jasonwho

I have a 97 SC and messed around with those damn rear speakers several times and finally realized that it is a waste of time and money to concentrate on them. After changing them out several times and changing amps several times and never achieving "more" or "better".......... I now run a good set of components up front and some tweets above the rear seat...... simple and very effective staging.... with excellent surround.............
Put your money in some good components for the front and forget the rears............
