Chiming in a bit late here but thought I'd out my .02 in. Here is what I did. I just finished my install and WOW does it make a difference! I kept my headunit as I didn't want to lose the features in it, speed sensitive volume and turning the radio down when the reverse sensor goes off. It is absolutely crystal clear which is surprising because high voltage pre-outs generally produce a much cleaner signal for the amps. I am satisfied with it at any rate.

I went with 2 line outout converters, one for front right and left and one for rear right and left. That allowed me to keep the stock stereo balancer and fader features. I also installed two noise filters at that point which has a lot to do with cleaning up the sound from the speaker level outputs. I installed one Memphis Car Audio MC2004 M-Class 50Wx4 amp under the drivers seat to drive the 4 Orion (by Directed) C573 3Ohm Coaxial door speakers. These are mids and directional tweets in one unit. I then installed a Memphis Car Audio MC250D 250Wx1 M-Class amp under the passenger seat to drive the subs. I am still waiting on my box and subs to arrive so temporarily I have a single 10" Memphis Car Audio PR104D sub in a box that doesn't fit under the seat back there. It will be replaced with a custom MTX box that will contain two 8" Memphis M-Class MC84 subs. A nice thing about the MC250D is it came with a remote gain adjustment that I mounted under the dashboard, seeing as I stayed with the stock HU this is very important if you shift music styles often.

Let me tell you, it sounds GREAT!!! I am very pleased with this setup. BTW, for anyone out there who hasn't heard of Memphis Car Audio, they are a relatively new up and comer out of Memphis, TN that is turning the car audio scene on it's ear very quickly. The guys running in competitions are very pleased with the quality, consistency, and warranty that Memphis provides. They will be going national soon and you will see this stuff everywhere.

Thanks guys and take it easy!

question for you. Do you have the power drivers seat? I don't see any room as to where an amp would fit. Also, whats the dimension of those amps? The ones I'm looking at I'm afraid are to long and will stick out behind the passenger seat which I can't have.

I do have the power driver and passenger seats in my Lariat. There is very little room but it fits. There is a heater vent under there which I cut back a tiny bit to make more space but I don't think it will affect anything. As to the size of the amps, the MS250D (Sub Amp) is (W x H x D) 6.25" x 1.7" x 8.25". It fit perfectly under the pass seat with no mod. The MC2004 (4 chan) is 6.5" x 2" x 12". That is the one onder the driver seat and required the slight mod to the heater vent. And yes, I did pull the seat on the drivers side to mount it. Neither of the amps are visible unless you move the seats to their forward most position, then you can get to the controls.

Hope that helps!

I have power drivers and manual pass. I was able to fit a 18"x10"x2.5" on the floor under the passenger seat on the floor. I did have a 18"x14"x2.5" under there but had to make a board under the actual seat and mounted to that. Had to re route the wires under there but there was plenty of room to mount it. I too cut the vents back and put a screw right thru the vent to keep it secure. Re-cut the carpet around the vent and you would never know it unless you took the seat out. The 18" are mounted as far forward as i could get them and they do hang out the back just a bit. Mainly the RCA's. If someone was going in and out of there, i'd worry about the wires. There is a spot about 12x8 under the power drivers seat. On the 04 there is also room in the dash for a 14x8 under the HU

Hey Guys, the two 8's came in and the new "proper" box for em. I was a litlle suprised to tell the truth, I expected to have to move my jack and would have one 8 on either side of the truck. Not so, the 8's are side by side in a 3/4 length box. It fits under the long backseat and doesn't mess with the jack. These subs are higher quality than the Memphis PR's and you can tell from the reproduction, the other suprise is they seem to hit about twice as hard as the single 10 with no change in power. I guess the box is better designed plus having them in the relatively small cab lets em run better. Anyway, I am really pleased with this setup!!

The reason I am going with the rockford's are that they are a good deal for the money and I do not need a system in the truck that I will need to install rubber boots around the windows to keep them from breaking lol.

I just want something that is well rounded and not something that is just BOOM BOOM BOOM.....

Hey guys, i'm sorta new to the Custom Subwoofer creation and I'd like to ask for some advice. I have the 40/20/40 in the front and i'd like to take the "20" and mount a small sub underneath it. There is an airbag sensor right below it so I kinda dont want to move that. So from the bottom of the seat to the Airbag sensor is 3.5 inches...not enough for a sub. But I can cut up into the 20 seat, restructure it and get some more room. This is obviously a poor/crude way of doing it, but I want to keep the space under my rear seat. Would I want to mount it cone up or down? Any other advice?

And has anyone ever heard of a System setting off the airbags?

Thanks for listening to the new guy.

airbags

Those airbag units really take a force to make them deploy. I would be very shocked if the sound waves from multiple subs could be enough to deploy the airbags. We have setup vehicles with 8 15" subwoofers in a van that literally shook off the rear view mirror, and no problems at all with the airbags.

IzIn, How far up into the 20 seat can you get? I would say down fire might work best if you can fit the sub under there and still give it a couple inches to breathe between the floor and driver.

Never heard of airbags going off because bass hit too hard but that would earn you bragging rights to be the first

Why you trying to save under the back seat?

Something like this might be a better suggestion.

Could even make it fire down and reduce the risk of the kids stepping through it or spilling on it.

That is cgorris truck

I can probably go up into it a few inches. It's a stamping of steel, with foam. So i'd have to cut the steel for the speaker magnet/basket, then reenforce it and carve out the foam.

I like that custom sub, but id like to keep the extra seat in the middle accessable. As well as keep it clear as a bench incase my honey wants to come sit next to me. : )

I want to save under the backseat because i'm a mobile DJ and I flip the seats up to load in my electronics, and just the flexibility to put anything back there. I know, i'm a wuss with sacrificing my space.

I think i'll be able to mount it facing downward at the airbag sensor. If my airbags deploy i'll make sure and post a picture!

Do you guys run your wires through the headliner or under the carpet?

Andy
I would also say if you want a 10" that you would go with the punch Z because it is about the only one that you can get to fit in there. I am putting two subs in my 00' extended cab and you only have about 5 to 5 1/2" of mounting depth. I wanted to get a 10" HE or HE2 but they were just to deep. I ended up getting two 8" HX2 and a RF Punch 501bd. The 8" is a lot better woofer, is less than 5" deep and with the amp I have the two should really pound. I am getting them put in mid April so I will put up pics when I can.

Actually, alot of subs will fit.

Look for samples of subs that fit well at www.SUBBOX.net. They are listed under the detailed descriptions of our products.

I saw that list and those are some good woofers the only problem is that if you want a 10" woofer that can handle some power there are few that will fit in that depth and most have large surronds and good amounts of travel that need more room to breath. That is atleast the problem I had, that is why I went with the smaller 8".

true...

Typically, the more power the sub can handle, the larger the subwoofer is.

The reason for my statement is this:

An 8" Rockford HX2 is a lot better woofer than a 10" punch Z, both have the same or similar mounting depth, but they are in way different classes of woofers.

If comparing the HX2 series then yes, more power then larger size, but that is not what I was comparing.
