JL vs. Eclipse??

Any opinions on the following subs??

I am looking at the JL 10w0, JL 10w3v2, or the Eclipse sw6103.4.

I am putting one of these in a Superbass box made by probox. They now make one specifically for the reg cab F150.

Thanks,
Rob

The JL is a better sub comparatively in the lower lines such as the W0 and W3. Once you get into the eclipse aluminum cone and the W7 they are both top notch and I would not be ashamed to own either. If I remember correctly in the upper lines like the W7 vs Eclipse Aluminum the Eclipse works in a slightly smaller enclosure. However, I choose to stray from the normal beaten path and use a Dayton DVC. Dayton for one carries a 5 year warranty on the sub, has a super low Fs and Qts, performs killer in a small enclosure, and handles adequate amounts of power. Check them out at www.partsexpress.com. You can get the 12" DVC for around $120 + shipping. Personally I don't think there is a better sounding sub out there for the price.

Dayton subs

cgorris- I am looking to build a home sub and I agree -partsexpress.com has some great deals on the Dayton woofers/subwoofers. They seem to be well constructed and capable of handling lots of power. From their site you can build a THX type sub for around $250 excluding your labor. What a deal ! Wish I would have known about them before I ordered my Infinity sub for the F-150 ! I have ordered lots of parts(connectors/heatshrink/cables) from them and they are a first teir mail order company.

Thanks for the replies. I went to the website and checked out the Dayton subs. They do seem nice.

I unfortunately have a budget I swore to my wife I would stick to, so I can only spend so much. I think I'm gonna go with the JL 10w0. Its $99.00 here locally in Baton Rouge. I have to go with a SVC 4 ohm since the JL 300/4 wont take a 2 ohm load. I'm going to have 1/2 of the amp powering the highs & mids and the other 1/2 bridged to the JL giving it a good 150 clean watts. The RMS on the JL is 125. I'm trying to get the right amount of power from my amp to match the sub. I dont want to have 150 watts from the amp and have a sub that has an RMS of 300. I need to be able to exert a little excursion.
I'm sure it will suffice for me. I dont want to jump the windshield wipers off of my truck. That was back in the day when I had 2 punch 12's in a 4th order box running off of an autotek 44 champagne. ( Ahh, the good ol days..... punch 45's, M&M Godfathers, MTX blue thunders, Orion reds).

Thanks.... any suggestions are welcomed.

I'd go with the low line eclipse sub over the JL W0. I never had much luck with W0's reliability wise they wouldn't last, but that is just my expierence with that sub. Others have probably had better experiences with it.

I have to agree with your opinion of partsexpress.com wholeheartedly! I have ordered from them multiple times and all but one order was perfect and they immediately corrected what was wrong and even allowed me to keep the item they sent that was wrong (it was only a CD but still I found that to be great customer service). Oh not to mention that I did something entirely stupid and blew up my sub, well they mailed out the replacement before I ever sent them back the blown sub!! Oh an they refunded the return shipping I spent to send it back.

As for the stuff they carry, great selection from ultra low end to ultra high end and everything in between. Have you checkde out some of the projects that they have for DIY home speakers? I love looking at all the different designs. You can also submit your own designs if you have something worthwhile. Being a big DIY'er and a former audio specialist I find them a great place to get cheaper speakers that have good quality sound to play with and blow up, Nothing like building a little box to get 20hz from a 4" speaker. I got some of the Vifa JBL with bucking magnets to play with next!! I think my next project will be an MTM setup.

There I go rambling again. Anyway, If your going to build your own setup for the home look into build a 1/4 wave transmission line enclosure and use one of the Dayton Titanics. That sub is awesome for home use and I think they even have them on sale right now.

$99 for a 10w0 seems a bit high. I bought a pair for $75 that was barely used and built a box and sold them for $150. So I say look around.

I may be able to get you a little better pricing on the w0s. Also, have you listened to the Kicker Comp VRs? You may be able to get them a littler cheaper; however I think the JLs generally sound a little better, but the Kickers are a little louder.

Do you have the front bucket seats or bench seat? I think I am going to sell my 10w7s since I just sold the pair of my Zapco C2k 6.0s and am going to go with the stealth box for the center console.

Something else to consider is the Adire Audio Shiva. They can be had new for $125, but it is a 12" diver. Adire also has some new Koda subs coming out which are a step between the Brahma and the Shiva. Also, as much as I hate to say it the e8a may be an option I think you would be surprised with the output you can get out of it; it's no 8w7 but I think it’s a good second. My brother in law has one in a ported box, but doesn't have power for it yet. We have hooked it up a few times and he was pretty happy with it. So if I’m sure you can take a listen when he gets it hooked up.

As for the comparison between Eclipse and JL I would say the TIs and the w7s are more a comparison opposed to the w7s and the alums.

Good luck with the install, and thanks again for your willingness to help. I will post pictures of the "mishap" soon.
