Eclipse Subs in Lightning

Ihave posted a while back but I have changed my mind after hearing some eclipse brand subs. I would like to know what would be the best setup for my truck. 2 12's or 2 10's or any other suggestions would be good too on the rest like amp and box type too. IF anyone would like to email me and discuss what i want and maybee help me get the best setup i can please do.

Go with tens. It is easier to build a box for them. I just don't see you getting an aluminum cone sub behind your seat. I looked at the magnets on those eclipse and they are huge. If you can do it you are the man. What about JL W3 Version 2's or Image dynamics subs. The Id's would be pretty easy to do. Can you build a box or do you wanna buy a box. Building a box is the best way to go.

Fitting the subs back there shouldnt be a problem since im not too big (17 5'10" and only 145lbs) I would like to go witht the eclipse aluminum subs or some JL w6v2's but ill check out some ID's just to keep my options open and ill go with 10's I would like to make my own box but i have never doen it so it would be a little work to get right.

Here is how you can three 10's back there! I know its kinda dirty, but it's hard to keep things dust free in AZ.

I've added more pictures to my gallery. The size of the box is 50x15x11. Mine had to be that size to accommodate the PE Roll Top cover as seen in one of the photos.

So let me get this right are your subs in the bed and amps just behind the seats? Or is the amp behind the seats and the subs are in the cab going through the wall into the bed.

The subs are in the box which is in the bed. The box is ported through the back of the cab just above the amps. That is what the black grill is. Between the bed and cab is a rubber boot that is flexible and keeps it water tight.

I wouldnt be able to live with my self if i cut holes in my truck. How would it sound if the subs were in the bed but no ported holes to the cab? I could mount the amps in the cab and run the wires through holes already in the cab.

Do you get on AIM if so my s/n is BLWNTRK id like to talk to you some more about this.

First off when you are talking about 3 subs do you know anything about Ohm loads you. Usually people use DVC 6 ohm subs for 3 sub setups. If you use any other type of voice coils it is gonna be a little more difficult. You will need to know the ohm load your amps are stable at before you buy the subs. To make sure everything will work correctly. You also need to look at the recommend cubic feet for the subs you wanna buy. Realistically it is gonna be hard to get a whole lot of airspace to the subs. That is why I said the eclipse subs might not be the best idea in the world. W3's would be about the biggest JL's I would think you could put behind your seat. Jl W6 magnets are pretty big. You might could turn the w6's sideways or something. 4 w3's and two amps would get pretty loud. Are maybe solobaric subs. They are made for small enclosures. Btw I don't blame you for not wanting to cut the back of the cab out for subs. I couldn't handle doing that either.

If you don't want to cut any holes, your best option is to go with the subs behined seats. I wouldn't recomend anyone do this on their own. Mine was done by profesionals that knew what they were doing.
All I know is... it sound great!

Good luck,

Jim

I have a w6v2 behind my seat in a custom fiberglass box built by me and it sounds very nice..... Its powered off a 500/1

Once I get my new camera (soon) I will take some pictures. I might start selling them to L owneres.... The shops I went to quoted me between 3000 to 5000 to do the custom amp rack and box that I did.

4 tens sounds good to me. It would be pretty loud. If you go with Four tens you will need a 1200 watt amp to push them all at there rms. Either one 1200 watt amp or two 600 watt amps. Give each sub about .75 cubic feet of airspace and then seal the box up good with something like liquid nail and you would be good to go. Tell us what kinda amp or amps you are planning to use and I will tell you how to wire them.

How much diffrence would 2 tens be from 4 tens? I have thought of running a JL or Fosgate amp but not shure what to get because this is all new to me.

On a side note I sat in a S10 the other night that had two 10" Pioneer Premier subs with a 800 wat amp runing both of them and it hurt to sit in that truck. I didnt th9ink pioneers could sound so good. Will JL's or Eclipse hit harder than these?
