Coponent Speakers

Ok so i have looked into those component speakers and have seen the prices and found some nice stuff. Now with the speaker adapters I have a '98 extended cab and was wondering if the plates make it possible for me to fit something bigger than a 5x7 component speaker in their. Also wheneber i looked at pictures of the sets it looks at though i will be getting one speaker set. Maybe u guys can shed osme light on everything that comes in these components sets.

Anyway thanx in advance

Player, You will get one pair of speakers in a set. Component speakers don't include any extras besides what 2-way or 3-ways have, they are just better quality and in a different version. For example, 2 and 3-way speakers have notoriously bad crossovers, while components generally have separate, higher quality crossovers that need to be mounted in their own space. The installation will be a bit more time consuming, but it certainly isn't difficult. As far as size, if you go any bigger than 5x7/6x8 you will have to do some cutting.

When you buy components they will come 2 mid/midbass dirvers, 2 tweets and 2 crossovers for each set you buy. Typically the sub is bought individually or each if you will so if you want two you would have to buy 2 individually. There are some component sets out there that will combine even more to a set and give you sub or subs with 2 mids and 2 tweets and some are even 3 way components that will give you 2 midbass, 2 midrange, and 2 tweets with 2 x-overs. It depends on the setup you are looking at if you have questions in that regard it would be best to get the details from whomever you are purchasing them from just to be certain.

Player, What is most common in components is a 2 way set which will include 2 midwoofers(most common sizes are 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" and are generally good to use down to about 80hz, give or take a little), 2 tweeters(there are several common types of tweeters;fabrics and metals are 2, and usually are about 1"), and 2 crossover units. The crossovers are nothing more than a network of inductors and capacitors that allow only certain frequencies to go to each speaker. That way the tweeters aren't trying to reproduce low bass, and the mids aren't trying to reproduce the highest frequencies. The crossover pieces will be in a housing that will need to be mounted somewhere(generally close to the speakers;mine are behind the kick panels). There are some 3 way components that have subs included. They work virtually the same, just with an extra speaker included. Also, there are some component sets that have 5x7/6x8 speakers. JL, MBQuart, and Kicker make some that are pretty nice.
