New Sats needed..... suggestions?
New Sats needed..... suggestions?
I"ve been running some Diamond Audio Hex components up front with a Rockford Fosgate 300x driving them and found one of my DA mids is blown.............
Great excuse for changing to something else and I'm needing some suggestions........... I have the 300x currently wired for 37.5x4 but am considering bridging to kick it to 2 channel op to get a few more watts to some solid fronts......... I really like sq and I like a strong midrange and twinkling highs.........I usually run my crossover at 80 with a 12db slope but all that is easily changable if I neeed to......
I also run a 12W3 ported box driven my a RF Power 500....... crosses at 80 or 50 according to what I'm listending to....
I'm looking at some more DA, Focals, MB quarts etc....... Any ideas?? or others I should check out???

Donny,
If you are wanting to keep it with the conventional style speaker then I would try the Dynaudios or the Focals to get a taste of something different. If you don't mind going through the steps of labor intensive work then I would suggest either horns like the Veritas (I think they sound best out of all of them) or do what I did and get you some planars and build out the kicks to hold them. If you can have a little patience I am about done with the mounting on my kicks so you can see them in some pics I will post in probably about a week. Like I told you before you are still welcome to come down to Atlanta and have a listen first if you want. If you want to try horns out I have my Veritas horns I just took out that I am willing to sell.

cgorris: Would love to see some details of what you're doing......... and I guess I've been out of the loop for a while and haven't heard/ seen any types of horns.........for auto use.......
In the doors are certainly not the ideal place for speakers and I too am looking at kicks.......
If I were a little closer, I'd show up to look/listen....... but Atlanta is a good 7 hour drive.........
Will await your posts of how the kicks/planars are doing.......

Donny,
As far as horns go, a good majority of your competition cars that place in the top of the SQ competitions are using horns of one type or another. The thing with horns are that they are very sensitive @ around 108-116db @ 1w/1m and they will stage perfectly. They reproduce an amazing center stage but in some cases they can tend to be a little narrow on overall width of stage. Narrowness can be overcome by adding a tweet in the base of the A-pillars and crossing them at a high frequency around 8k-12khz. Then throw a pair of 5.25 or 6.5" in the kicks and they become truly amazing. The reason I changed over to the planars is because the tonality is better and they don't take as much room in the footwells (in our trucks this is only a problem on the passenger side because of the AC unit). Some horns can be nasally in the vocals but that too can be overcame with passive and/or active components. Anyway, now that I have the planars setup to image correctly I don't think there is a single set of components out there at any price that could compete with my tonality. I will get a pic of them at this stage before I form them with fiberglass so you can get an idea of how to go about doing it if you want. I will post it to my gallery later on today when I get the chance.
