Type-R only 300?

Hey guys, I went to Radio Shack the other deal and he is gettin in some Type R's in a few weeks, and after about two more weeks he says they will probably go on sale since no one around her wants to pay 200 buck for a sub. So, when they go on sale I will probably get one(12''). Anyway, I was looking and I saw that they only rate them at 300RMS, but peak is 1000watts. I also heard from a few people that Apine underrates their stuff. So my question was, What is the real RMS power around?

I was thinking of a 400RMSx1 amp(around 800peak), do you think this is to much? what are your guys's oppinions? Thanx

The Type Rs are just an average subwoofer at best. They sell for about $110 shipped on the net and are a good buy at that price. I wouldn't even consider the subwoofer for anything more than $135. There are plenty of better subwoofers around for ~$150 (eg. Phoenix Gold Ti, Image Dynamics IDv.3...).

A 400w RMS amp would be no problem on that sub. More power is better than not enough as you can always turn down the output but you can't turn it up once it maxes out.

The Type-R sounds nice

I have heard a Type-R in a Izuzu Rodeo and it sounded pretty good, but I agree with Dues that they are only average subwoofers. I would Look at Elemental Designs O series.

What is the amp?

Jus My opinion on the sub.

get a amp over powered and keep it turned down

any amp starts distortion over 40% power i believe

but you can live with quite a bit of distortion on a sub, so its not to big of deal
