Amplifier Placement Problems
Amplifier Placement Problems
Ok, first of all i have a 98 F150 Flareside Extended Cab
so i finally find the enclosure that fits my needs exactly except there is one slight problem. The enclosure goes underneath the rear seat, allows the seat to still fold down, but there is no room to put an amplifier. I talked to the guy at the site where i plan to get the enclosure from and he said to just put it underneath the front passenger side seat. I thought about that then when and looked at my truck and noticed that there doesnt look to be enough room to put the 17" 2400 watt amplifier i had planned on putting there. So now here is my question, does anyone have any suggestions in the placement of the amplifier.
Anyway thanx in advance

Just curious what kind of amp it is. Anyway that sounds like a problem, I have my amp under the driver side seat because it fit under there.
Hmmmmm, do you have any room behind the rear bench seat, like have you ripped out the seat backing and seen what is hidden back there. Just a suggestion.
What are the 3D dimensions of the amp, and I take it you have a 2 sub enclosure taking up the entire length of under the bench seat?
Good Luck

Under you driver seat should be fine...I had my XTANT 4004 under there before L X W X H = 15" X 9 1/4" X 1 7/8" Your amp is a little longer but will fit..Your going to need to remove your seat for the install..
2 questions
If i put the amp under the seat will it get messed up at all when i moved the seat around?
And it looked like in ur truck u carved out a space under the seat to install the amp. Am i just seeing things? Could u explain how u did it?Not in detail but a brief overvies so i can get an idea of the kind of work i would be putting in.

Nope shouldn't get scratched when moving the seat...no "carving" the indent is there in the floor...I just ran the wires under the carpet ..thats the only "extra" thing I did...Just take you unwired amp and see if it slides under there..A little test fitting may give you some good ideas..

Player you have an 03
Player your vehicle is the same as mine and I believe that the under the seat has changed since 99. We now have those dame wire things, which run to the airbag i believe? Also we have those metal brackets which prevent you from drilling an amp the size of yours down, under the seat.
I take it you already purchased the 801S?
If you havent let me know.
Anyway do you use your back seat quite often?
do people ride back there, or do you store things back there?
Best of luck keep postin'

u guys i have a 98 flareside extended cab
nothing has been purchased yet. i am just checking everything over before i buy. The subs are gonna need at least 2000 watts of power and the 801s provides 2400 so i figure i can let some new speakers tie into that.
anyone thanx again

Player,
Another thing that you may want to keep in mind is the possibility of using a Class D amp on your subs. It will for one be smaller than your typical Class A or AB amps. Second, it will be way more efficient which for the kind of power your wanting which will mean less heat to be dissipated. Therefore, your mounting options increase dramatically. Due to the smaller size of the amp overall this will also benefit you in finding a place to mount it. If you find a Class D that offers the power you want and need. Compare the dimensions of it to the 801s and you will see it is much smaller 90% of the time (unless the company just believes in using a heat sink way larger than necessary to give the big amp look).
If you decide to go Class D or even Class T then you may be able to get it either behind the upper portion of the back seat (lots of room there actually), under on of the front seats, or maybe even up under the dash somewhere (of course this would get a little creative on the mounting).

I thought you had already purchased the 801S, since you havent I say check out the class D amps if all you are looking for is to push some subs. They are much more compact, and you should be able to fit one under the seats. I have a 4 channel 551X RF under my seat, not a class D, but again not the power you want, I use it to push components as well as a sub. My point is you can probably find a class D that will push the wattage you want and it could even be the same dimensions as my amp?
Good luck bro
