No limit on recommendations for Subs
Hey whats goin, on thanks for lookin into this. I have a 1998 Ford F150 Flareside and am taking any suggestions whatsoever for subs and speakers. To tell the truth the only limit is about a $1000. I am specifically looking for subs. I wanted to get around 4 Ohms. And if at all possible i dont want to replace the head unit. Also i have to still be able to have the back seat in full use which includes be able to fold it down. Thanks for any and all recommendations. Oh yeah and as u have prolly already figured out it is an extended cab.

It sounds like you have an extended cab.
Which means you will lose your back fold down seat (more than likely).
As it is, you only have ~5-6 inches if height under that seat, and about 8" in depth. Basically, you have to lift your seat to make any decent room for good volume in your box which is necessary for you sub to sound good.
I also agree with MEAT BAG in that you should probably go ahead and upgrade your head unit as well. With your budget that shouldnt be much of a problem since you can get good head units for around $200 or less.
Will you be able to build your own box, or are you looking for pre-made? Building your own would be MUCH cheaper, but there are pre-made kits out there that have the seat risers as well as dual 10" box for about $150.
If you want a 12", I seriously doubt you can fit one down there unless you can find one with a really low mounting depth...but you would be better off with 2 10"s IMO if that is the case.
In summary:
you wont be able the fold the seat down
you probably should get a new head unit
need a box
sub(s) of your choice
amp
might as well upgrade your speakers too (you could just do the fronts if you wanted)
If folding the seat is a must, then I suggest you get a good head unit, 4 REALLY good speakers that have good bass response and can put out some power, and a 4-channel amp for the speakers.
Thats what I would do anyway...one of the sound guru's like cgorris or someone else may be able to shine more light or come up with more ideas, but I think this can give you some ideas.
BTW, I am also going through this. Have a '97 extended cab, and Im going to have to lift the back seat if I want to put subs in there. Found a guy who will make me some brackets for $100 with all the hardware included that will lift the seat approx. 3".

Anyway thanx again.
Thank you
Johngs,..thanx
U r right in all of ur assumptions. Just a few questions. Is there a website that i can go to and look into that duel 10" sub enclosure with the risers because i have no problem building or instlling any of these things. BTW what is ur opinion on self amplified subs in comparison to a regualr enclosure?
I am not worthy of ur wealth of knowledge.
Once again thanx.

The website was http://www.subbox.net
I personally would try to go for a sub with an enclosure vs. the self amplified subs, since it gives you more options. Plus I think it would sound better...but someone who has experience with them would have to give a better opinion on that.
Thanx
Thanx a lot that subbox site has exactly what i am looking for in a enclosure even thought it wont allow me to fodl the seat down. Any way thanx again. Oh yeah and in anyones opinion who makes the best subs annd amplifiers (i am aware fosgate does have a bit of a stranglehold on the amplifier end). Anyway once again any and all advice is helpful.
