sub proplems and recomondation

I just had a new system put in my truck. pioneer premier p350-4 polk ex-368's 2 polk gxr's 10" subs and a memphis pr150.2 amp. the subs are in a enclosed box that was made to fit under the back seat and the fire up. after a week of listining to several different types of music i'm not happy with sound, the bass is to muffled and distorted at higher volumes, and the speakers are not getting enough power, after talking with the company who installed the man said he can take back the amp and install a memphis belle amp,(more money)change the subs and the sub box.(more money) But also said he needs to raise the back seat(more money) he said the polk subs are running 8 ohms?? and that i need 4 ohm?? I dont understand the ohm part? he said the belle would run everything and the new box would fire down. Does anyone have any advice on what if anything I should do here, get the belle and leave everything else the same? or maybe change the 10" to 8 " subs? any advice would be helpful, thanks!!!!

Sounds like he is juicing ya. Do you know what the exact model is on your subs (eg GNX108, GNX10DVC...)? I think you may be best with a large 4 channel amp such as the Orion XTR800.4. With an amp like this you can run your front speakers (100x2) and your subs (400x1) and then run your rear speakers (if you choose to run them) off the deck.

re: Deus

The subs are model GXR-104 found that there no longer made from Polk. Isn't it recomended to have all speakers powered by an amp? Would I get un-even sound then if only the front and subs were powered? My cost so far on this system is 830.00, and yes for that amount I feel it should sound better. thx for reply

I couldn't find that Memphis model number anywhere. What are the specs? And, what kind of shop did this? Are they reputable or are they riff-raff? I can't help but wonder how this is all wired up. The Polks are better than stock, of course, but they are average otherwise. Are the subs crossed over properly? Lots of questions come to mind.

Wow, that amp and those subs are a terrible combo. Either this guy doesn't know what he is doing or is definitly trying to get as much cash out of you as he can. Its funny that he recommends Memphis' most expensive amp.

Anyhow...a lot of competition vehicles don't even use rear speakers. Once you have a solid front stage all the rear speakers do is screw up everything. The position on them; especially in our trucks, sucks. I recommend not to waste the money replacing the rear speakers and having to buy an amp for them. Take that money and buy a more powerful amp for your subs and fronts...and maybe even a solid set of components for the front.

Deus are you talking about the amp and subs i got now? or the subs with the belle? My choices since I have to go back there are Memphis, Eclipse, Pioneer, Clarion, Polk, and JVC. amps and speakers. I seen on the Memphis web site that they also have a smaller belle, so I dont know if he was saying that one or the bigger one? The Memphis amp I have now is model 16-PR150.2 total peak power 300 watts. I measured my box under the back seat and its 5 1/4 inches high 13 inches deep and 14 inches long, its connected in the middle but just to hold it together, the amp is located on the hump behind it. So out of the brands i listed which one has the best amp for what i need? I dont have enough room for 2 amps as the jack is under the pass. seat and the drivers seat is power. It needs to be a 4-channel amp right? I guess without raising the back seat the sound from the subs is about as good as i can get? or will they sound better with more power? or should I change to another brand of sub that will also fit that box? really dont want to raise the back seat. anyway thanks again for the help..
