Talking elemental designs

I heard about elemental designs on this website, and since my RF HE2 was stolen i need a new sub and am considering an ED. THe ED 10k.14/44 is in my price range. Just wanted to know how they are, or is there a better sub I can get around this price? I was lookin at the infinity perfect 10.1d. Anyway what is up with the flat cone. Looks interesting.

Which sounds better the dual or single voice coil, and what difference does that make?
Also I like rock, and some rap, will one of these 10" do it for me.
Just need someone to steer me in the right direction here.

Thanks
Jim

I've heard great things about Elemental Designs. I was actually gonna get a pair of the 10K44s but the cost of shipping to AK is ridiculous.

Question will RF power 551x push it hard

Can a amp that puts out 275 at 4 ohms bridged give enough. It will be in a .66cuft sealed box. this is a four channel amp and the other two channels will be running to components.
Anyway should I go with the single, or dual voice coil. And does anyone know what difference it makes?

Thanks
Jim

I run an e12a in my lightning and am very impressed. Quality construction, great spl and accuracy, and all with a solid bottom end.

The appeal of the DVC is more wiring configs. Get the subs that fit your amp set up.

You might consider going with the e10o instead of the k. That sub in a ported enclosure would definitly rock.

I can't speak from experience with using the subs... but if I had to replace my Audiomobile EVO (Audiomobile no longer in business)... I would most likely choose the E10K. Its specs are very similar to my EVO 10" so I'm sure it will sound very similar in the same application. I listen to a lot of rock, country, and various other types of music... it handles all of them superbly and satisfies my bass needs.

You'll most likely want to purchase the SINGLE 4 ohm sub... I doubt your amplifier is 2 ohm BRIDGED stable but rather IS 4 ohm bridged stable.

275 watts should power the sub enough to get plenty of output from it... if you look at their ratings, a .5 ft^3 enclosure is recommended to have 200-450 watts to the sub. And a .8 ft^3 enclsure calls for 100-250 watts to the sub. So I'd say with your .66 ft^3 enclsore 275 watts would be in the middle of the ED recommended power range. Just make sure you don't try to get more output from the sub than your system is capable of. (i.e. clip the amp)

You will want the single coil version if you plan on bridging a 4chan amp to it.

275w RMS will be fine as the sub handles 350w RMS.

Cookies to whoever guesses the sub on the left.

Nothing special with the flat cone.. it doesn't affect sound quality or effectively change the surface area to offer any advantages over any other conical shaped speaker. Some people have thought of it as a way to get more excursion.. with a flat cone you don't have the depression of the conical cone affecting your suspension/motor travel.. though ED doesn't accomplish this with their particular flat cone. Ultimately, its just something that looks different... there have been other flat cone speakers before (can't think of any right now though).

I think it looks sweet. Just something different.. kinda like the NO LOGO.

My guess for that sub would be. My god, it could be any number of subs. However, I can promise you it came out of the same plant that the RF subs used to come out of. Best guess would be RF since it has the bumped back plate, stamped basket and that plastic ring double spider. Also has the pulp cone with foam surround and is treated with the same thing. Dust cap even looks like the older RF caps. Even the serial sticker is close to the same size. I can't remember how to spell it off hand but prior to RF becoming a large company a company called cavanaugh built al their speakers as well as the speakers for many many other companies. Rockford wound up buying the plant in the early-mid 90's.

Anyway that is just what I can gather from looking at the speaker.

Talking hey dues

Is it IDMAX!

Anyway Im looking at a subbox on subbox.net, and the max mounting depth is 5.5, and the mounting depth of the e10k is 5.25, is that quarter inch enough breathing room?
Also you said the single voice coil, I thought two voice coils had better sound? Can you hear a difference?
anyway

IDMAX

haha

Multi coil subs are just for flexible wiring configs. The only difference you will find is in spl competition subs with 4 or 8 coils. In this case they add all the coils for the extra copper which ups the thermal power handling of the sub.

a 1/4" IMO is not enough room behind the port.

Image Dynamics is not inet based

Angry dam it!

Hey Dues do you know where I could get one of those nice under the seat boxes, for one 10", with like another 1/2" of mounting depth. Looks like subbox.net isnt going to work for me. Or do you think I should sacrifice getting the ED e10k.14 and get a different sub with a shallower mounting depth?

thanks

Jim

The sub on the left looks like a Shiva or a Dayton Quattro
