Diffrence in ohms

I want to get a pair of solobaric's S12L7. What is the diffrence in the 2 and 4 ohm models? What amp should I get to push them nicley. thanks

Pick your amp first and what ohm load it is stable at in bridged mode. Like most rockford fosgate amps are only 4 ohm stable in bridged mode. If I were you I would get at least a 1000 watt amp to push these subs. They can handle the power.

The L7s are DVC (Dual Voice Coil). You have the option for DVC 2 ohm or DVC 4 ohm. With a single DVC 2 ohm woofer you can either get a 1(parallel) or 4(series) ohm load, with two DVC 2 ohm woofers you can get either .5 ohms(parallel), 2 ohms(series parallel), or 8 ohms (series). With a single DVC 4 omh woofer you can get either 2(parallel) or 8 ohms(series), with two DVC 4 ohm woofers you can get either 1 omh(parallel), 4 ohms(series parallel), or 16 ohms(series).

You will most likely get the cheapest and most power at 1 or 2 ohms. So depending on you amp, choose which woofers will give you the msot power out of the amp.

A 2 ohm voice coil will be wound with bigger wire and handle more power than a 4 ohm voice coil.

Hazard, Did I say something incorrect? Besides allowing your amp to produce more power, providing 2 ohms is safe for it, the 2 ohm voice coil will pass more current without fusing. It will also produce less heat, which increases the power handling. Given the same voltage, a 2 ohm driver will produce more output than a 4 ohm. Less of the amp's energy is transformed into heat in the voice coil, which results in more cone movement, thus creating more output. The original post asked for the difference in the two. That happens to be one of the differences.

Generally most subs that are the same but just available in different impedences handle the same amout of power. He is looking at Kicker and in this case kickers subs handle the same power.

Its hard to say which subs would be better for him in this case...he may want the dual 4s to get a 1 ohm load or the dual 2s to get a 2 ohm load, and they will handle the same amout of power.
