I need input on this idea

Right now I have 1 10's in tiny little boxes under the back seat of my extend cab. My lasted idea was going to be screw the seat brackets and just build a box that takes up all the space under the seat and mount the seat on the box. If I do that as is and just build a box for outward facing subs I have no head clearance for people sitting in the back. I think my only opinion is going to be a down fire box. Any ideas??

Downfire will work well.

They make lift kits for your back seat. You could install a lift kit and that would create plenty of room for subs under the rear seat.

Are you talking about the boxes that fit under the seat? Those are too expensive for my blood. I'd much rather build my own. Right now I've put a 2x2 under the seat and have small individual boxes that don't give me much room for sound at all. here's a new question.... should I go with a seperated subs or open?

How much airspace can you get to them. They should have there own airspace and not share. Did you build the box out of 3/4 mdf and seal it good?

I'm thinking it'll be 56x12x10or9 (LWH). I have built plenty of boxes. Friend of mine used to own a stereo shop and I helped him build many of them. Just let him do the calculations.

Almost forgot, take 2 inches off the height for the sub clearance. so 56x12x8.

Ok I've played with numbers and I roughly came up with this... air space per sub will be 1487.12 inches. Does that number sound right?? Using 3/4 in MDF my outer measurements are 56x9x12. I'm giving 2 inches ground clearance on the bottom. Does this seem remotely correct? I just wanted to throw somethign out there before I go and take the time to build this.

What end result do you want from your subs? What subs do you have? What amp do you have? Good 10's in the right enclosure can be competition quality or in the wrong enclosure can sound pitiful. 10's, or even 8's, can go very, very low with the proper amplification and proper enclosure, which can be pretty small. And they can be very loud in a truck. And some of the best subs are down-firing. It's all about picking components that fit what you want to accomplish, and then using them as they are intended, and not taking any shortcuts. Shortcuts can ruin a potentially great system.

I ran these subs with the same amp in my pathfinder in a downfire box and the amp beat the **** out these subs. The box was a bit smaller. That's pretty much the only difference. I moved everything into the truck. These subs just don't work well with such a small amount of air space.
