Subwoofer Installation HELP!!!!
I have a 2001 SCrew (bought new in Oct 2000). It has been a real joy however, it has come time for some more "lows". The day after I bought my truck I installed the three-way Pioneers in all four doors. Yesterday, I ordered a box from subox.net that will hold a 10" sub and go under the back seat on the drivers side. I also ordered the MTX 10" 6000A speaker and a Profile 500 watt mono amplifier. Here's my question....
How do I hook it all up????? I guess I get one of those installation kits with wires and RCA cables. Do those kits have instructions with them? From what I've been able to glean from threads, I should get an 8 gauge kit?????
Where the heck to the RCA cables run from/to. Is there a kit or adapter I can buy that will let me use the factory stereo or does the stereo have RCA jacks?
So many questions, so little expertise....
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your gonna have to have a 4 gauge amp kit. 500 watts can be run off 8 gauge wire, but it isn't as safe. Place the fuse about 6 inches form the battery. Get your amp kit at wal mart it is cheapier and works the same.
Wiring an amp is easy if you are good at hiding wires. If you don't want to mess with it, HH Gregg, Best Buy, and Circuit City all will hook up an amp for under 50. H H Gregg has the best price here.
Ya, the RCAs will run from your CD player to the amp. You'll probably have to have an aftermarket CD player to do that. I've never seen a system hooked up to a factory f150, but I may be mistaken.
I have a 6-disc changer behind the passenger side back seat with the cassette receiver in dash. I guess that I need some sort of "box" to convert the left and right speaker wire to RCA jacks. I would speculate that I would just "tap" into the existing run so that I could pull signal for the sub amp. My wife asked tonight though, if I pull the sub box out from under the back seat (for the purposes of folding down the back seats), will there still be some lows running to my Pioneers?
All new to me..I need help!!!

You'll need a good quality LOC(line-out converter) to convert your speaker wires to RCAs for the amp (unless the amp has speaker level inputs??). Don't buy the cheap LOCs because they can introduce noise into your system. These are supposedly some of the best: http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm Before I added an aftermarket HU to my system, I used an LOC tapped into my rear speaker leads just before they entered the rear doors. It will make no noticable difference in bass level to your Pioneers.
