2Trucks1Wife!

do you still have your thunderform? I am back to gettting a system within the month, and i know i am going to run the panasonic df602u with the pioneer 6768 speakers. now my q is should i run the amp in the cd player to the speakers and get a thunderform, or get a glass box, 2 10's or l7's or something i can fit under my rear seat, and use a 5 channel amp to run 4 to the speakers and 1 to the subs like a kicker 700.5 with 2 comp vr 10's? Any help would be appreciated.... The glass box would cost 500 and then the subs and amp another 500 from ebay, so 1 grand for that stuff vs 500 for the thunderform? and install is like 100 for the thunderform and the same for the amp and subs if i buy the box there..... thanks!

I listen to rap, and want some decent sound..... clean sound..

500 for the fiberglass box seems a little high.
I was quoted 250 for a fiberglass box for 1-10".. it shouldnt be more than that for a box for 2 10"s.

You could build your own box for MUCH cheaper.. under 50 bucks probably if you've already got tools. OR You could buy a ProBox or Subbox.net box for 2-10"s. I dont think its totally necessary to have a fiberglass box.

Are you not willing to attempt install yourself?.. that will save you over $100.

I would say get a ProBox for what.. $250 and then get your $500 stuff off ebay.. I think that would outperform the $500 thunderform.

I never had a thunderform....

Your best bet is to get the probox or subbox.net box like TEK said, the fiberglass box wouldn't be worth it...especially for budget subs. Now if you plan on entering a lot of car shows, etc then it might be worth the money to invest in a custom 'glass box, but not from the people that quoted you $500. IMO the Comp VR's suck...I've heard them & instaled them for other people, they have smooth bass but they don't get very loud. When you turn the volume up they bottom out too easily...even on the 15's. I don't like Kicker amps either, I think they are over priced like RF.

For the speakers, the Pioneer's are good replacement drop in speakers...but component speakers are a lot better. If you shave some money off of your budget for the custom box & Kicker amp you should be able to afford some good components & a nice amp. The JL Audio XR6.5's are very nice components for $200 (ebay). For good budget speaker amp, check out Planet Audio, Autotek...there is too many to list.

Keep shopping & do your homework before you make the purchase...if you have any more questions/ideas let us know, we're here for you.

The dealers around here sell the pro box that you would want for about $150-$175.

Sorry!!! TYPO!!! My bad, thanks for your input, some good info. I will just spend the extra for some better stuff, but as far as the box, I like the way they (al and eds) build them, and I'm sure not going to build my own. I know I want the panasonic cd player, and I will look at some better speakers and subs, and as far as the amp I'm going to check out PPI. I''m going to look at some eclipse subs, and check out some other speakers, not sure if I want to do component speakers though, I just want to have the stock speaker locations and a box under the back, I dont want any small tweeters or anything. thanks again for your imput, and sorry about my bad spelling.... :o

The extra tweeter is really no problem to mount.

Obviously, this doesn't give me the best sound stage but I wanted everything out of the way and no cutting to the door panels.. I go through vehicles pretty quick so I didn't want to do anything to the truck that would leave holes or anything when I get rid of it (and take all my stereo equipment out).
