question about door speakers

Hello, i have a 1998 F-150 single cab with a pioneer 45x4 head unit and all stock speakers. Recently i blew the front left door speaker. I need to get new speakers for the doors but i am going to leave the rear speakers stock for now. I don't have much car audio experience and am confused at what size I need to buy. From reading posts, it seems I need a 5x7 or 6x8 for my door speakers. Is this correct? Also, wouldn't a 6x8 provide a little more bass and sound much better than a 5x7? And will a 3-way 6x8 such as the pioneer TS-6867 fit in the door without the tweeter pushing on the grill?

I put in the 6 X 8, Pioneer 3-ways in my front doors about 3 mos ago; piece of cake. No problems w/tweeters and they sound much better than stock.

pioneer 3 ways dont push on the grill since it has a low range, tweeter, and a super tweeter...they are all seperate and are even.....now the stealth 3 way has a low range, midrange and a tweeter.....the stealths will push on the grill b/c the tweeter is on top of the midrange causing it to go up a little farther than it should thus cause it to touch the grill which can later blow the speaker.....

just make sure u have enough clearance......pioneer 3-ways are OK....cerwin vega stealth 3 ways BAD(that's why cerwin vega stopped making the stealth...b/c they aren't that great)...

5x7 and 6x8 are the same speaker....just differenting mounting brackets....both fit the same...so dont worry if u get a 5x7 instead of a 6x8...IT'S THE SAME
here are 2 sites which offer some good speakers...u'll see that millionbuy is cheaper though...but crutchfield has better technical service..

Milion buy http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/...uy/speaker.htm

Crutchfield
www.crutchfield.com

Good Luck and please tell which speaker u decide to buy

Is millionbuy a reliable store? I am thinking about ordering the Pioneer TS-A6867 from them. 59 bucks is a good price....Circuit city is asking 99.

You will also need a couple wiring harness adaptors to go from the stock Ford harness to the new speaker terminals. Makes for a much neater job so you don't butcher the stock wiring. I got mine at Best Buy, but almost any installation shop will have them. Note: the shop will need to know the year of your truck because the harnesses changed quite a bit over the years.

Got the pioneers in today and installed em. They sound great. Millionbuy was pretty badass too. My speakers were out the door to fedex within a day and got here in 3 days. Now its off to the ford dealership to replace those plastic pushbutton things that hold the top of the door panel from sliding out of place. Thanks again for the help!

Hey guy's I'm new to this site, I have a question....

I have a 97 F-150 and it has the stock speakers all the way around, I also have the stock head unit (am/fm w/ cassette) but I have a 12 disc CD changer in the back. I think my speakers in the front doors are going bad. So what size do I need and what brand is good. I'm not into the thumping systems, but I would like a good sound?

Thanks

WHITE4.2F150 - If you are refering to the retainers that the center pin is flush on when they are installed, there is a "proper" way to remove them:

Use a small screwdriver and press very gently on the center pin. It should go in and stop about half-way into the receiving piece. You should then be able to remove the entire plastic retainer as a unit from the door.
