MTX Thunderform Problem?

Guys,

I had my Subs/Amp installed Saturday. I bought a used set of MTX Thunderforms and I had a Sony 1502SX 2/1 channel amp that I used as well.

When I turn the volume up past halfway the amp goes into protect mode and cuts the bass. The tech said I probably have a coil going bad in one of the subs. Does this sound like what is happening?

Thanks for any input.

John

The tech could be right...but Sony amps are notorious for breaking. Test the amp on a different sub (maybe a friend will let you borrow one), and if the amp works fine then you know it is the sub.

Yea sounds like possibly shorted wires or a bad speaker, which usually means the voice coil is shorted out. I had something similar happen to me with a kenwood amp and it was shorted wires. Another possibility is that the way you have the subs hooked up is too low of a resistance for the amps. Example your subs are hooked up at 2 ohms and the amp is only 4 ohm stable.
