How do you guys like the area? E-Z-GO wants me to come back down for a 3rd interview next week, so it's a big possibility for me once I graduate.
it's pretty nice. i'm a 21 year old college student, so it's not the most "happening" city. but it's nice. there's everything you could really need. and ur not too far from beaches or atlanta. i like it

"The third round of interviews will allow us to evaluate candidates to help us determine the best fit for our current openings."
We had on-campus interviews after our career fair. They narrowed it down to 7 from 100+ from the on-campus interview day. The 7 of us were driven down to tour the plant and have second interviews a few weeks ago. Now they've narrowed it down again (to what I would assume is 3 or 4) for a more in-depth interview. It's more or less to see where we'd fit in best. I think they want me for a manufacturing engineering position since I've been working at a manufacturing plant for the last three years. Not a big deal, though, because from what I've seen they pay their manufacturing engineers very well.
My only concern is the location. Don't know enough about the area.
Lately I've been shooting out applications to the Western NC/Eastern TN areas. One of my favorite things to do is go hiking, so I'd much prefer to live somewhere closer where I can take a day trip without any problems. Augusta puts me 4.5+ hours away from anywhere like that.
Sounds like they're getting ready to make offers. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. 4.5 hours is still close enough for weekend trips without having to spend most of the weekend driving.
If they give you an offer you find acceptable, I'd say take it, for a couple reasons.
1. Besides just having a job, you'd be able build on your 3 years experience in that field.
2. If you plan on taking the PE down the road, working as a manufacturing engineer, you should be able to burn up the PE exam no problem. It's been a huge PITA for me since I haven't done any ME related work since leaving school.
3. If location is your only concern, you could always look for another job if you find you didn't like it there. Looks like a decent little town, 2 small colleges, a bunch of bars and restaurants. I'm sure you could find something to entertain yourself.

Definitely, man, if they make a good offer and nothing else comes up I'll take it. They are a great company to work for. My boss where I work now is trying to hire me, so I need to find out who I need to talk to. Not sure if they are technically hiring now, but he's told me that I'm more qualified to work there than the new engineers they've just hired. Hopefully that will be a kind of foot-in-the-door deal. Not to mention I will have 6 months left on my current lease after graduation, so that would give me time (and money) to find a place.
I'm going to push for a job around Asheville. I put in two applications yesterday that both seemed manufacturing-related, so the experience should bode well. Hoping something comes from that area. I agree, Augusta isn't outrageously far, but compared to Asheville it is. If I wanted to do a day-hike it would be 9 hours of driving alone from Augusta.
Right now I'm torn up between the perks. I'm not being picky and will take whatever comes, but if there is more than one possibility (which it's looking like) I will have to take things into consideration. Good job in a crappy area or a job that pays the bills in a great area. I want to be happy doing what I do, but nowadays it's pretty much about finding what pays vs what you love to do. Not to mention work only accounts for 1/3 of the time. I'd really prefer to live somewhere I really enjoy so that I can have fun outside of work. Not saying I couldn't in Augusta, but I'm really big into going outdoors.
I am ready to graduate but I'm not ready to graduate.
I do appreciate the well-wishes, though. I'll keep you updated. I believe I'll be driving back down to E-Z-GO next Friday.

Plus then there will three-four of us in this area, more hands to help, if needed. Either way good luck with the interview!
Well the GOOD news is: if you like Carolina, you can LIVE in SC (no need for a GA license) and drive the 20'ish minutes across the river to EZ-GO. Where I am in SC is right off I-20- 3'ish hours to ATL, 2.5'ish to Columbia...
