Question Reliable shops in DFW?

I have an '02 Supercrew XLT with 65,000 miles. When driving with the RPM's around 1200 to 2000 or almost always when the tranny goes into automatic overdrive the truck starts to surge. It feels kind of like a miss fire, or maybe like the truck is choking on some bad gas.

If I mash the accelerator down it seems to power through it, but it always comes back. If I turn the overdrive off is seems to go away. Initially I thought that meant I had a tranny problem but I think the surge goes away when overdrive is off because the RPM's go up.

After a few days of this it is obvious it is not going away. Today the service engine soon light came on.

Has anyone else experienced this before?

I guess I need to take it somewhere. Does anyone know of a reliable place in the DFW metroplex besides the Ford dealer?

well, I have an 02 SCab XLT with 65,000 miles on it, and I don't have surge issues.

If your engine misfires, that check engine light would IMMEDIATELY come on.

It even comes on when the engine has a SLIGHT misfire (which is the biggest reason why people think their sensors "malfunctioned")

In the DFW area, I trust my truck ONLY to Five Star Ford off of 820 in N. Richland Hills. They do not have their prices up in the stratosphere like most every dealer in the metroplex. Plus, if you have insurance and that's your primary vehicle, you can get a rental through Five Star for free.

Lightbulb Sounds like

It seems like a fuel filter issue but sometimes the fuel filter gets clogged it just seems sluggish to repond. But that is my guess if you havent replaced yours yet. Let us know what the final diagnosis is.
