Site Server Upgrade - October 2nd
Site Server Upgrade - October 2nd
I know many of us will often miss a 'Site Announcement' so, as such, here's a C&P of a recent announcement (posted atop each of our forums here at f150online.com)...
Site Server upgrade - 10pm PST 10/2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are upgrading the site database servers on Thursday the 2nd of October at 10pm Pacific time.
We anticipate this will take around 2hours, and the site will have to be down during this.
Thanks for your understanding, and we aim to have f150online back up and running (and faster than ever)

What kind of backend are you turning to?! Are you upgrading to a newer version of Apache? Also I noticed that the PHP version on the server that you guys are running now is rather old.
Personally, Apache is ok, but I'd rather run IIS, but since it looks like corporate owned servers without much say, I guess you got to run whatever they got.
Well good luck.

RP isn't going to have that information. He only gets into the vBulletin control panel. All the rest of the stuff is handled by IB.
I'm assuming the database is being migrated onto stronger hardware, and maybe getting a newer version of MySQL.

We're replacing the thermothruster on the proton-exchange unit.
It's very very technical... I don't understand it. I just am told that it'll help performance, boost speed, and will provide everyone on the site with a booklet of McDonald's gift certificates for free french fries.
This is lucrative... We almost had Dairy Queen on the hook for Blizzards but, that all fell through and got very messy; I mean, have you seen a LARGE Snicker's Bar Blizzard spilled on a hardwood floor? It's incredibly messy...

PS: Seriously, I'm not sure exactly what all is taking place. Just moving to make it bigger/stronger/faster, I believe. To quote something from a thread that I'm very fond of within the Moderator's Section -- We're going to smack it on the butt and pull its hair.

If they did in fact do the upgrade last night, I think they goofed and installed a Briggs & Stratton. The site is slower than it's ever been. It takes a couple of minutes just to start a page load, and then it loads at worse than dialup speeds. WTF?
I'm attempting to get some information on this because, you're absolutely right, it's running like absolute crap. Maybe a few bugs they're working out... it's pathetically slow though.

Whatever you guys did on Monday when the site was down for 1/2 hour really helped!!
I just started using Mozilla and thought that was the reason for the lag but since Monday night the site has been loading super fast. Good job!

That was a server migration that was done SPECIFICALLY to deal with the lag issues that several of us were experiencing. I would concur that it seems to be moving a tad better. Thanks for the feedback.
