Experimenting with wide tower ad on left...

Hey All,

You may see the site's layout change a bit over the next few days as I experiment with replacing the 120x600 skyscraper ad on the left side of the page with a 160x600 wide skyscraper. Just an FYI, I am not adding any new ad placements to the page, just experimenting with an alternative size. As average monitor resolution settings are increasing, I think it makes sense to keep up with the preferred ad placement sizes available from advertisers.

Thanks for the info.. I thought it was my computer. Are you also experimenting with colors? Seems like the threads I posted in or looked at are in black now.

So, the American
consumer spends
money on a wider
monitor and
eventually all the
additional space
is taken up with
advertising.
I'm going to start
practicing now
so I'll be ready
when you go to
a 600x600
skyscrapper.

Raoul, as monitor resolutions have gotten wider, so has space allotted for advertsing. When I first started this site, the only ad placement anyone really talked about was a 468x60 banner, like that at the top. We've only been using the 120x600 for a couple years, if that long. However, the new "standard" for skyscrapers (the tall ads) is now 160x600. (reference: Internet Advertising Bureau)

I know that you are only giving me a hard time, and not complaining, but since this is the size that advertisers are now asking for, and our primary source of revenue is advertising, we have to keep up with the times...it may only be a matter of time until the 468x60 is replaced with the larger 728x90 "leaderboard" which is already used at other Ford truck enthusiast sites and on the secondary ad placements here. (like below this post)

As for colors and homepage...yep, doing some more experimenting with colors. I removed the classifieds links, and also experimented with some other layouts for them, like a drop-down box, so they are not gone for good, just have to figure out an aesthetically pleasing way to work it back in. Take a look at the homepage now and see if the classified drop-down makes sense...

Do whatever it takes to keep the site humming along.

The Classified drop down is a nice touch but, either my eyes are getting old or that is a really small font.

Once again, I not complaining.
You use as tiny a font as you deem necessary.

I'll hire a midget to read it to me if I have to.

Sorry, that's the best I could do and still make it fit in that space.

I like the classified page drop down box, but maybe move the Tshirts and stickers into the same box as the new logo ad. Then move google box left, and helpful resources up, then you have more room for the classifieds page.

But its looking good. I think black looks better then those purple bars we had before. And the Green was even better!
