GREEN DOTS! Use your creativity, improve the site, win a $50 pre-paid gas card!

Hey All,

As many of you have noticed, since upgrading to the latest version of vBulletin, we have turned on some new features, including Reputation. We will try to get a simple users guide on what repuation is and how we expect it to be used in the coming days, but in short what is allows users to do is express an "opinion" on a users post with a sort of thumbs-up, thumbs-down. (kind of like Tivo?)

In the short term, I expect some people that have seen these feature on other forums to openly solicit "rep." Please note that this will not be tolerated in the long term. Over time, I think there will be some value to reputation for some people. Right now, it is limited to those with at least 100 (counted) posts and 90 days on the forums. That could change, I don't know yet.

So...what is the point of this post??

Well, the default "titles" that come with this feature are decidedly, ummm, English. (not the language, but the culture) This makes sense considering that the company that develops the software is on the other side of the pond.

I propose a contest where you can submit a list of reputation titles that are more appropriate for F150online.com. They can be mechanical in nature, truck related, enthusiast related, racing related, Ford related...who knows?

For the person that comes up with the best idea, we will give them a $50 fuel card of their choice.

The rules are simple.

1) the contest will end on 3/1/2006
2) the winner will be chosen by Doug, Brad, Brooks and myself. (i.e. the mods)
3) we will contact the winner by email and announce the new titles on the forum.

Next thread...

...continued...

The way the points system works is with (counted) posts, time on the forum and personally given thumbs-up or down, your reputation increases or decreases over time. When it goes up, the number of green squares goes up. If it goes down, the number of green squares goes down or even turns to red. Hovering over the square shows you the "title" that the reputation is given. Here are the default values:

User is infamous around these parts -999999
User can only hope to improve -50
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past -10
User is an unknown quantity at this point 0
User is finding their way 10
User will become famous soon enough 50
User has a spectacular aura about 150
User is a jewel in the rough 250
User is just really nice 350
User is a glorious beacon of light 450
User is a name known to all 550
User is a splendid one to behold 650
User has much to be proud of 1000
User has a brilliant future 1500
User has a reputation beyond repute 2000

So the idea is for you to come up with a list of 15 different titles of increasing credibility (?) that is more reflective of the nature of our community.

If you want to participate, to keep it fair for everyone, please webmaster@f150online.com me your list of 15 items in increasing value with a subject of "F150online.com Reputation Contest"

Entries that are PM'd, posted on the forums or not in the requested format will not be eligible.

Thanks and good luck!

FYI --- I JUST RECEIVED TWO SUBMISSIONS, NEITHER EMAIL INCLUDED A SUBJECT!

The reason that I specifically asked that you use the subject in your email is that I have a filter setup in Outlook to capture and put them in the right folder. The two entries I just received ended up in the spam folder because they did not have subjects. Thanks in advance.

BUT, if for some ungodly reason I win, will you keep the $50 and use it for the site?

If the webmaster offers you a half a tank of gas, it would be ungracious not to accept it.

Would you want me to keep the card and use it for the site? The plan was to give to the person who provided the winning entry...I guess I am a bit confused by the question.

You could always accept it and then give it to me!

I agree, and I didnt think of it that way. I would be pleased to have one.

BTW, you have something to do with my votes for the new titles.

Raoul set me straight. I was refering to the $50 it would take to get a gas card. I'd like to see it go into the forums (the $50, not fuel. ).

The prize thing is a little confusing because there are 15 possible responses and one winner.

Seems like you'd want the 'best of the best'.
Maybe two from this guy,
three from that guy,
ten others from ten different people.

I don't think anyone could 'nail' all 15.

I'd set up a spreadsheet, 15 columns and an 'author' column.
Populate it.
Cherry Pick.
Anybody authors even two might win.

Am I missing something?
Are you looking for all the same 'Theme'?

Also, are the numbers that allow the ranking to be the same?
-99999 seems awfully high for my "Almost as nutty as Tritoneer" label
