New to this low...

Hello gang! I am looking into changing the tires up on my truck, I currently have 315/70/17 BFG KO AT and want to downsize tire size and remove my leveling kit and AAL for a smoother ride and hopefully better MPG! Now with that being said the new tires are going on my 17X9 rims with 4.75" backspacing. I plan to drop the rear of the truck 2" with some drop shackles and was wondering what is the biggest tire size I could run with that setup? How much do the shackels affect payload and such? *When I go ride I have my 400lb quad and maybe another 100-200 additional pounds in the bed for camping. Also how about towing trailers? I usually tow around 6-8000lbs of quads and camping gear on a flat bed or enclosed. How would 265/70/17 look at stock height and with the back dropped 2"?

The tire of choice after all said and done of my reviewing is the Yokohama Geolandar AT/S.

i ha that with stock hight and looked good... when u put a trailer on it of 4000lbs it sags alot... if u do alot of towing and or putting stuff in bed i would just put those tires on and leave it at stock hieght

I maybe tow the trailer once a year or so, not a lot. I have the quad in the bed maybe once every two to three months. I hardly use it to do much towing anymore since I got a diesel.

So I should be safe with the 2" drop than? Also how would this tire size and drop affect in the off road department? I am just talking about going down graded dirt roads and such, no extreme off roading or flexing from it.

Thanks for the help, keep it coming!

Ok sweet! I do not plan to hit the sand with this heavy. With the 2/4 drop still going to use it like you do? I figured if I like the drop maybe I will look more into a larger drop. This is my first time of lowering my truck and after riding in a few buddies trucks it was not to bad.

A 2/4 drop is still very functional. I have that drop on my truck. I've had a bed full of a week's worth of food and vacation supplies for the beach vacation we take each year and the truck makes it fine. I have some air assist shocks I'm going to put on it to help with towing.

Agreed. 2/4 - the way to go on a truck being used as a truck. - Og

You won't even notice a 2" drop as far as function is concerned. You will just barely notice it visually.

I even did the GF 2" shackle before the total drop. Maybe he's heading that way too.

I do not think I will go more than this 2" drop, who knows though! A trail period for me. It has been 2 years lifted and who knows maybe a few days lowered or a few years till she becomes a full time toy. I should have pictures within the next one to two weeks with wait time on the parts and installing the drop.

Well at least with a shackle drop it's easily reversed.

Good thing on the shackle being easy to reverse. I had it for a week and really did not notice much visual change with them. According to the tape measure was ~1.25" lower. Going to leave it on for another month or so and see if it "settles" any. I will post some pics up on Monday for ya guys. I am in complete happiness all over again with my truck. The GF is not happy about it, I asked her that means I can get a new truck than?....took it as a NO!
