I just purchased a CTS. The best deal I could find was using Bing Cashback - but the program ends on July 30, 2010 at 9 p.m. - so you would have to move on it. $564 - 12% cashback - $25 Edge Rebate. $471.32.

I just got mine installed, so really can't offer many details, other than it is not really a wow product in my opinion. I am hoping for an MPG gain, so we will see if that happens. I have not tried the performance setting yet, and doubt I will - Unless that box has magic 300 horse power, it won't make the 150 fast - that is just physics.

I called Edge because I did not notice an "economy" setting in the menu. Edge said I could see MPG gains with any of the programs. That left me with the feeling that I will not see any MPG gain. The box does say 30 Day Guarantee on it - I might have to take them up on the offer.

Also, I adjusted the shift firmness and pulled off the road when it sounded like the tranny was going to drop. Back to stock for that setting.

With all that said, the gauges are pretty cool, but not $500 cool. Just my 2-cents. I have spend much less to have cars dyno tuned and had proven results.

Contact PHP for custom tunes for it.

Another thing to do is set it back to stock and disconnect the battery and turn on the headlights for 10 minutes.
Then turn off headlights and reconnect the battery.

This helps erase anything stored in the pcm.

Then load your desired tune.

But before you ditch it contact PHP for custom tunes you'll like them a whole lot better than the canned ones.

So tell me how the Gryphon is not a canned tuned? Do they send out any equipment to analyze your vehicle? Do you make a trip to a dyno? No. That sounds pretty canned to me. I was somewhat confused when I started looking into the F150 tuners because in every other automobile I have "tuned", unless the program was specific to your vehicle - it is still a canned tune. If I am missing something please let me know because from everything I can tell, the Gryphon is still a canned tune everyplace except in the F150 circles.
Now, I am not saying that Gryphon is not good at writing tunes, or claiming that their tunes are not better than tuner xyz, but unless they are putting your truck on a dyno or sending you some data logging equipment, its a canned tune - happy lol

I will look forward to your response.

Thanks for the advice - I feel like the Edge hardware is nice, but as I said - the tune just did not seem like an improvement. I guess I am just thinking for a retail price of more than $600 - it should deliver out of the box. BUT - I should not open my mouth too wide until I give the edge a chance to run for a few weeks.
The other problem is my previous experience with "tunes" have been truly custom tunes, as in dyno tunes specifically for the automobile. With my last car, I could switch tunes via the cruise button, and going from stock/economy to performance was a night and day difference. The $600 retail price for the Edge would buy enough dyno time to make a truck really nice - so I guess that is my bar of comparison for the Edge.

I went ahead and called PHP - they sound like they know their stuff, and above all the person I spoke with was very honest. He told me the 2002 5.4 was not likely to pickup more than 15 HP with any tune alone and MPG gains would top out at 1.5, maybe 2. Percentage wise, 1-2 MPG is a major increase for the 150, so I would be happy at that level.
Their price was very fair also. I figure I will try your suggestions and drive with the edge for a couple weeks and then go ahead and order a custom tune from PHP.

Last - let me be clear - I AM NOT SAYING THE EDGE IS BAD - I have not tested it long enough to have some hard data to make a proper judgment. My statements are just initial impressions. I don't want to push anyone away from a product, but I do want to be honest.

#1: you didn't buy a gryphon...

#2: you aren't 100% on what a canned vs custom tune is

#3: have a nice day

It is the exact same hardware, no difference. Why don't you go ahead and visit a Mustang, Vette, BMW, or even a ricer forum and tell them about your "custom" tune. You'll get laughed out of the place.
Unless you are visiting a dyno or at least a data logger like hp tuners to pull data to produce the tune, it's a canned tune. Someone might have "customized" it, but it's canned and not custom for your vehicle.
I'm not sure of your mechanical ability, but typing online doesn't improve your score.

One more time...........

Edge evolution has canned tunes.

The Original Gryphon has canned tunes.
These canned tunes are tweeked by Bill at PHP.
Not the same as edge's.
The Gryphon can also have custom tunes.

The edge CS+CTS has canned tunes.
The Gryphon CS+CTS has canned tunes.
Both of these versions are the exact same thing.
They both look the same.
PHP is the only tuner that can write tunes for these.
No matter if you buy it from PHP or edge or someplace else.

The Edge has to be *converted* into a Gryphon by PHP in order to have custom tunes.

Correct.
But
Only with the edge evolution model.

The CS+ CTS does not have to be sent in to be converted.
