There is a great thread called heavy towing with efans. search it. Its under debate. Thats why I said what your intended use is. If your towing a PWC or 4 wheeler, i would say so. Doing some seriously towin up a steep grade in baja, ehh.

When I said our trucks sounded similar, I meant the trucks themselves sounded similar. 04 Supercrew 5.4 3.73's..not sure if you're 4x4.
That and the tire size seems to be the only difference.
The thing that helped my mileage the most was cutting out the clogged catalytic converters. I don't know if you have the same problem with the cats, but by the time I cut them out, all the other mods had been completed.

The only reason I am going to do it is because I will not be towing anything serious with my truck. For your aplication, your best $/mpg would prob be gotts first, then a custom tune from one of the big three. Since you will be towing I would suggest a gryphon since you will get the added benefit of being able to monitor your trans temp amoung other things.

Talking Order now! Operators are standing by! Well, maybe they're sitting

But wait, if you call our 800 number (8THERES-ONEBORN-EVERYDAY) within the next 10 minutes, we'll send you not one but two S.T.U.P.I.D. devices and two GREEN intake devices.

That's right, you'll be twice as STUPID for the same price (just pay a small shipping and handling charge - similar to Canadian Customs rates).

And don't worry, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee (minus a 92% restocking fee and the small shipping and handling charge - similar to Canadian Customs rates).

Don't worry about ordering the wrong S.T.U.P.I.D. device as one size fits all. However, we do need to know your favorite potato chip flavor to properly select our environmentally sound (and tasty) intake.

Installation is a breeze. If you can use duct tape, WD40, and KY Jelly, you'll have no problem installing your new S.T.U.P.I.D. devices and GREEN intakes.

(Please note orders from Tampa, FL will be sent more detailed step by step directions [approximately 700 pages] and will be given a special 800 phone number to call for assistance with determining humor on internet forums. Orders from Canuckistan will include navel lint removers and MGD.)

What are you waiting for? Order NOW (your Ford dealer or local mechanic will love you for it!).

dude i don't get it, i run the same size tire as you have a airaid intake exhaust edge new plugs and pretty new filter and i just filled up today and figured i am only getting 8.9 mpg , i use to get about 13 mixed but lately it has sucked, and i kow winter gas doesn't help but this is the first it has ever dropped and i have had it 3 years, i don't get it but it makes me want to buy a diesel or a newer truck and see if that will help at all, 8.9 just sucks, i think hummer gets better then that lol...

Your 2004 truck likely runs lean from the factory. Custom tuning will have your truck running safer and getting better MPG. Plus who doesn't want an extra ~40 horsepower?

Before I lifted my truck, I was averaging 19.2 MPG at 70mph with Troyer's tune. That is with 4x4 drivetrain.

What you need to do is tune it for the bigger tires so that the spedo and odometer is actually right on.....then you will know what your mileage is.....I am getting 15-16 with mine with just cold air and a hypertech plus dual pipes and high flow cats....i am running a 265/70/17 mud terrain....the chip might cost a bit more up front but worth it in the long run....

I can Just calculate the difference in tire diameter and factor that into my calculation, not worth the $$$ for a tuner to do it.

I have a problem now though. I bought a can of the MAF cleaner (the exact one recommended in this thread) and cleaned the MAF yesterday. I did not touch anything but the plastic on the outside and followed the directions on the can. Now every time I start it up I get the engine failsafe mode message on the message center. I towed a trailer with 3 dirtbikes on it today up into the mountains for some fun and could definitely tell something wasn't right. There was a lack of power and when I would step on it the trans would not shift down to gain some RPM. Any ideas? Do you think I messed up the MAF with MAF cleaner (that would be ironic)? Any advice is appreciated. It is drivable now, but its not great and can't tow worth a sh#t.
